    Hi, everyone. Newbie here.

My name is Heather. I’m married with 3 kids. I have a dog, Puppy who has epilepsy and 3 cats, Jefferson, Cupcake, and Butterscotch that I rescued last year. A-hem…. I also have 6 kittens that I didn’t really prepare for.

Ugh! I know! I fell down the stairs at Christmas and things were so hectic after that, I honestly meant to take them in and get them fixed, but there was literally so much going on, months went by in the blink of an eye.

Boom! Both females got pregnant within days of each other. Butterscotch gave birth to 4 kittens on 6-21 and Cupcake gave birth to 2 kittens on 6-28.

Jefferson was not a happy cat when we took him to the vet and had him neutered, so when he got home he immediately attacked Cupcake and got her by the neck. He would not let go. He was still going through the motions. Luckily he calmed down pretty fast and ever since he has not been aggressive.

3 more weeks until I can take the kittens in to be checked. The vet is going to let me put their pictures on the wall for perspective owners. Despite the expense they will be free to a good home, but I’m not about to take them out and just give them away. I want them to have good homes and if I can’t find any, they’ll stay with us. They are so precious, but man I have spent sooo much money on cat food, supplements, and vitamins. (Oh and don’t worry… I do plan on getting my females spayed as soon as they wean their litter. Kittens are cute, but they do grow up!)

Anyway, glad to be here! 😀

Welcome to TDK, Heather (or HB, at some point initials get used around here, as in I’m KJ, LOL)
Sounds like you have quite the furry crowd there. Things happen. I adopted Nicky, my first (ever) kitty (or pet for that matter) also free to a good home, also from a posting at a local vet’s and also ’cause his mom got “caught short” before her surgery. Did his purrents ever check me out before they let me take my baby home! After years he is now in the Meadow. Now I am owned by Dorry, the silver grey tabby in my avatar. Is that one of your kits in your avatar, the black kit with the shark stuffie? Adorable! And glad that you’re OK now after Xmas accident.

Welcome Heather! Wow, things sure sound crazy at your house! One thing popped into my mind is this: please watch your male cat, even though he’s been neutered, around the kittens. Toms will sometimes kill kittens because they feel the kittens are a threat to him and take the attention of the female away from him. I know he’s been neutered, but only just been neutered, and he may still have some horomones raging around in there, HA!

I know the deal about being protective of kittens. In the past, I have had my barn cats have many litters, and I kept them all. Not that anyone wanted them, but I could have become a serious cat hoarder….LOL! People used to pass by my house and literally toss cats out. Pregnant cats, kittens, whatever, they just didn’t care. I cannot turn away an abandoned cat (or any animal for that matter) so I have spent big bucks at the vet’s office.

    Glad you are here!

Thanks. It’s been a long journey, all of it! I’m still swollen in some places, really hoping that will dissipate sometime before I die! The avatar is just a drawing I found, but I am looking through my pics to see if I can get one that has all of the cats together. Butterscotch is kind of snobby and she doesn’t really care for Cupcake and Jefferson. 😀

I know what you mean about being a hoarder. My husband does not like our pet situation at all. He never wanted the cats and now they have multiplied, so he has been grumpy a lot lately.

The kids tried to get him to hold the kittens. He’s like get that mess away from me, I don’t want to fall in love with it! We had to supplement for a couple of the kitties because they weren’t gaining enough weight, so those kitties would rather be with us and it’s hard not to love them and want to keep them. Little Jeff Jr. was licking my face last night and he’s only 3 weeks old. The kittens are starting to learn to walk well and Cottonball and Jeff Jr. will just raise their little baby heads so high straining to hear our voice and then venture out. They look right at us when we talk to them because we’ve held them so much, and I tell myself that’s not your cat! Oh well.
