I have a 3 month old female kitten, Max. She’s VERY high energy, living comfortably with 2 adult cats. I’ve had her since she was about 6 or 7 weeks. Her litter was orphaned and my in-laws were hand raising then for about a week or 2. Around the time I took her, she was starting “solid” foods. She’s been great using the litter box, but I have noticed her poop has never really been… Normal. It’s not quite diarrhea, but it’s just piles of mush. The last week it has escalated. She rarely poops in the litter box, and this morning I came across about ten piles spread around my living room floor. She’s on a diet of kitten food still, but I think she does eat some of the older cats food from time to time. I just can’t imagine it’s frequent enough to do this to her? We’re going to the vet tomorrow morning for some stool tests and to ask about a better recommended diet, but I just want to see if anyone else has some knowledge on what might be happening? She doesn’t act the least bit sick, the other two cats have normal poop, but she is ALWAYS hungry. Usual for whatever I’M eating. I’ve never seen anything like it. She will scale my entire body to climb up on the counter when I’m preparing/eating food and Jays howls and howls like she’s starving to death. I’d she just strange in that way or does this sound like a parasite problem? I’m awaiting instructions from our vet before I do much of anything, but this is running me ragged. I just don’t know what to do for her other that put a litter box in every corner of my house.

Hi Marni, it DOES sound like a parasite problem. Worms probably definitely because they eat and eat but are always hungry AND since you are taking her to the vet, have them to a fecal test for coccidia and giardia. Just in case. All are totally treatable, but with different meds in the last two which are single celled parasites unlike the worms that all kittens usually get from their moms. Keep us posted and let us know what the vet has to say.
