I recently adopted a 2 months of kitten from my friend. The first day I got it home, he already knew how to go to the litter box himself, I was extremely happy. 2 days later in the morning, he peed in my bed, I thought it might just be a one time thing but he did it again the next morning, this time I thought maybe the litter box needed cleaning but before I got to clean it, he went in and took a poop. I cleaned the litter box after anyways just incase, and an hour later he peed in it! I let him sleep with me again that night thinking everything was fine, but at 4am today he peed in my bed again!! WHAT IS WRONG!? I NEED TO KNOW… He also peed on the kitchen floor twice when I left him alone in the house yesterday.

    Hi Steh,

It is possibly one of two problems-1) he has an urinary infection or 2) because he can smell the pee on the bed, he pees there again. Have the vet. check for an infection and get an enzyme cleaner like Nature’s Miracle. Once you get the smell out of your linens change his litter to unscented formula. I don’t know how far away his litter box is but you might put another closer to the bedroom.

Hi, Steph, PG has great advice. Also, small kittens can be like small children, they get ‘caught short’ if they are playing and suddenly need to go and are a long way away from his litterbox. Also check that he can get in and out of it easily, that it’s in a quiet place (not in a heavy traffic area where he might be afraid of being stepped on). Kittens pee in their warm nests when they are with their mum and she cleans it up so peeing in the bed is something a lot of them do, as PG said, you need to clean the spot with an enzyme cleaner. Also, when you go out, I would leave him in a smaller space — maybe the bathroom or kitchen if you don’t trust him alone in your bedroom — with his litterbox so he doesn’t get caught short again. If the problem continues, you can get a Feliway spray — it’s a pheromone that tells him, we don’t pee here — and spray it on spots where he has been going. You can also try moving his litter tray to over the spot where he has peed eg in the kitchen or bathroom. But do get him checked out by the vet for an infection, if it hurts him when he pees in his litter box, he will start to avoid it. Best of luck and your vet will have more suggestions.

Sanitizing all the places that he peed would help.
My 4 weeks old kitten did that and I bought alcohol sanitizer and cleaned all the places.
And be cautious when you use liquids containing alcohol because it would be harmful for your kitty.
