Does anybody have any advice on what I can do for my kitten I took her & her brother to the vet today because they were both acting really weird & lethargic. The boy Jack passed but I still have the baby girl she seems to be reacting to the antibiotics they gave her but I cant get her to eat or drink, I bought a baby bottle to try & force her to drink but she wont even take that. What should I do? I was thinking of getting some pedialyte & some baby formula & feed her that but she wont open her mouth to take the bottle

How old is she? When did you get them? From where? Let’s keep this bumped up so the more experienced see this. I don’t want to be negative but it sounds like she may not make it. Please know if that happens, like with her bother, it is NOT your fault! Sometimes young ones just turn very fast. We would need to know more about them. Bless you for trying to help. She may need an emergency vet but she may not make it there.

Edited: Okay I see she is 3 months. How long have you had them? Could hey have gotten into something in the house?

Also if you can rub something on her lips/tongue she may TRY.

I have been the caregiver since birth but they stared living with me @ 6 weeks. I cant think of nything they could haqve possibly gotten into they stay in the master bedroom which i the kitten room it has the litter box all toys food & water bowls & beds. I dont keep anything else in that room that they could have gotten into

What did you bathe them in for the fleas? Does she still have fleas? Has she been tested for FIV and FeLV? What were the results. I think there is a recipe for pedialyte for cats, check the pink tag I added at the top. I’m hoping Skyron and some of the other who have more experience will check in soon.

I used SENTRY PURRRSCRIPTIONS flea & lice shampoo for kitten & gave her a flea collar but he still had fleas. The vet gave her some flea tuff that seems to have worked though. I was going to have her tested but couldnt afford it. I could barley afford for them to see the vet at all

Get and keep the collar off and no more of the shampoo. I would rinse her in very warm water and make sure all that stuff is off of her. Once you get her through this we can discuss how to safely de-flea her. The fleas can make her anemic and spread illness. If she has a lot of fleas still let us know. Get her dry and warm and yes, if you have pedialyte try to give it to her, even rub it on her lips to try and stimulate her. Look at her gums. Are they nice and pink or very pale or white?

I would bathe her but I dont want to wash away the flea treatment the vet put on her fur which seems to be working VERY well. I can actually ee them jumping off of her instead of just crawling on her

Maggie that is a very, very bad sign. I don’t think this little one is going to make it. I pray she does but it is not looking good. You have tried your very, very best, I know, and you love and care for her. Keep her warm and let her know how loved she is. She will cross to the other side where she will be healthy and happy and wait for you. We call that place the Meadow.

I’m not being a negative Nellie, just realistic.

    Bless you, sweetie.

Do you have a flea-comb? The tiny kind with the very close teeth? Maybe, maybe if you can get her de-flead she might have a chance. Keep her warm and close to you.

Maggie, I’m very sorry to say this, but it sounds like your kitten is dying. If it is at all possible, try to get her to an emergenc vet as fast as you can. Other than the flea problem, what symptoms did she and her brother have that required antibiotics? Vomitting? Fever? Diahrrea?

Keep her comfortable, try giving her some pedialyte. You can also rub some syrup inside her mouth, sugar will perk her up a bit.

Oh Skyron I’ve been hoping you would see this. I think this little one isn’t going to make it. My prayers for Maggie and the kitten. May her passing be painless and her memories sweet of her human mommy.

Maggie you are doing good. Keep her warm and close to you.

Has she had a flea collar on all this time? Those are incredibly dangerous to cats. She’s probably been poisoned by it. Only a vet can help her now. Pale gums and the fleas jumping off of her are all signs of anemia and very low blood pressure. Keep her warm, and be there for her. For me it is always a very noble, kind thing to do, to help an animal or person as they pass on. Its incredibly sad, but it helps them so much.

They didn’t show any of those symptoms at all they went from being happy playful spoiled brats to lethargic pretty much overnight. Then Jack went from lethargic kitty to a kitten that looked like it had just polished off a handle of jack daniels & from there it just got worse. I am thinking they both had kidney failure from poisoning. I am hoping Sophie still had a chance even though she isn’t looking well at the moment because she hasnt shown the same symptoms Jack did before he passed around 3pm

Maggie, I’m so sorry that this is happening to your kitten 🙁

I’ve done what I’m listing below for a young kitten at the shelter that was anemic, but I do not think my kitten was as bad off as yours.

Giving iron & vitamin b can help with anemia for cats. I mixed 0.5 ounce raw egg yolk (high in vitamin b) with 0.5 ounce raw liver (high in iron). I also mixed some probiotic powder in with it, though most people don’t just have that around. If you have any plain (non-flavored) yogurt, that has some probiotics in it as well.

The problem with the above “recipe” is that it also can cause diarrhea. You can also not use it if the cat has eaten dry food within the last 12 hours.

See if your vet will sell you a bag of Lactated Ringers as well as a syringe & needle. If you can get that, you can give sub-q fluids to her, to help replace what she has lost.

Of course, like the others said, getting her to the vet would be by far the best option.
