    Hi Ami,
Welcome to TDK land-the fluffiest feline site around.

It’s not the best food for the price. You could find something better using the following guidelines:

Real meat, fish, or poultry protein sources as one of the first two ingredients, whole fruits and vegetables, natural fat sources such as Vitamin E and mixed tocopherols to prevent food from spoiling and specific vitamins and minerals for the particular lifestage formula of the food.
Healthy foods also contain no artificial preservatives, flavors, or colors. They cost a little more, but in the end they turn out to be a good value because they also contain more nutrition per ounce, so you can feed less to satisfy your pet’s daily requirements. Feeding less means less waste in your litter box, too.

If you have a guy kitty a food for Urinary Tract health is a good move. Male cats are prone to crystals or UTIs and these foods help to prevent infections. From personal experience, Science Diet is good quality.

We have our own food choices so I’d wait until other TDKers weigh in before making a decision.

    Keep in touch

Hi pussigato thanks for the feed back. . I hadn’t heard great things about science diet either and blue got nailed for by products not that long ago. . I’m definitely looking for grain free and healthy for sure. . At this point I free feed as it hasn’t been an issue. . Although the baby is struggling with diarrhea at the moment but that’s improving (he’s not been sold since I got him and has a small hernia needing attending sometime after the holidays here) both are males actually I didn’t know that about the uti issues for boys thanks for the tip (always touchy that was a girly issue lol)
After my lab passed I decided my lifestyle was better suited to trying a kitty which recently ( and unexpectedly) multiplied to 2 lol (long story there) Any help I will gladly take. . Thank you

If you have concerns about Science Diet then go with Canidae or Wellness. Canidae is a holistic formula and Wellness has a Holistic Select. Both foods are expensive.

    Hello and welcome Ami,
When I first adopted my kitty I had a million questions – about everything! LOL. One of them was what to feed him. The vet made the recommendation based on my kitty’s purrticulars, ie he doesn’t like to drink his water. Vet also told me exactly how much food to put out (I do not free feed, but put out wet/dry food 2x/day.) As he grew from kitten to cat we have adjusted food/portions. I am not naming brands as each kitty is different, but result for me is a slim, healthy cat. Nothing like getting expert advice IMHO. Hope this helps.

KJ has a good point. After talking with our vet, I put Miss Gaea on a Prescription Urinary Formula because she’s prone to crystals. Two of my fur babies shed a lot so I mix in Science Diet Hairball Formula. It’s a good combination for my babies.

Free feeding isn’t the best idea. I was doing that and now I have two overweight kits. Just like people, it’s hard to get it off than to prevent the weight gain in the first place.
