    Hi Dragonlover,

I never use a grooming brush on Bob, but I do think the rubber ones are more pleasant for the cat than the hard metallic ones.

Instead of brushing Bob to cut down on shedding, I got him used to, right from when I got him, taking a bath once every 3-4 weeks. He hates it, of course, but it cuts down on the shedding a lot.

I’ve also heard a lot of people say that the Furminator is the best grooming tool ever. You can try and check that one out online.

Dragonlover, GreatDane has some great advice! I’ve also often found that a “soft slicker brush” or a slicker brush with dipped tips on the wire tines (less scratchy) is a good brush for most shorthairs, but it depends upon how much your kitty likes being brushed. Or I just comb the kitty with a flea comb, which also removes loose fur.

Catwoman, I have to ask. A PINE CONE? What type of pine cone would that be?

Don’t pieces of the pine cone get stuck in his hair?

dragonlover22, Hi! I’m Bertie.I was a dog & cat groomer for 23 years. & I also have Shih-tzu. & a cat. I have found the best way to keep the undercoat of any animal in check. I always use a metal comb on my dogs & cats. I’ll start with a wide tooth comb ,then I’ll use a flea comb to finish. If you do this once a week you will have a clean cat or dog & you be be able to keep a good eye on his skin health & keep all the fleas, ticks& lice off the animal.Brushes are okay if you don’t want to lose the undercoat.(like show people)But if you want to keep the cat or dog from shedding & keep mats out & bugs…The comb is the only real way to go.I shave all my animals once a year, in the middle of the summer . I had people that would have me shave their cats every 6 to 8 weeks. But this is ONLY for indoor cats. This was for people with allergies. It seem to work for them. thanks Bertie P.S. If your cat or dog doesn’t like it JUST KEEP doing it untill it stay put & it will tolerate it sooner or later “DON’T GIVE UP!!!!!!!!

The pine cone is from a regular old pine tree. My ex-husband started doing it years ago, just picked up a pine cone off the ground. Now when he comes over, if Tristy sees the pine cone in his hand he starts rolling around on the ground in anticipation of being scritched with it! Pieces of the pine cone don’t seem to come off in his hair, MS. I guess because the cones are fresh?

Catwoman, Doesn’t the pitch get on the cat? Pitch can make sores if it stays on a animal.I know when my dogs would play with a pine cone they would get pitch on them. I would have to take goof hand cleaner to get it off then they would have to have a bath to get the goof off. I had lots of pine trees in my yard.So I would try & keep the pine cones picked up. KB, what is pitch? I’m going outside right now to pick up a pine cone and look for it. I’ve never seen any kind of residue on Tristy afterward, and the pine cone ends up full of cat hair.

If the purpose is to have the cat shed less, there are people on this forum who swear by the Furminator.

    http://www.furminator.com/

I see it out there for sale online, for about $19.99 plus shipping. You’d want the small blue one. PetGuys is a website that seems to have a good price & customer satisfaction rating.

    You guys are up early!

Dragonlover, there are also cat shampoos that are specifically for help against shedding.

Shaddo absolutely loves the glove that has rubber nubs on it that make it kinda like a massage. It’s amazing how much fur comes off. I think I got it from Drs. Foster & Smith.

I have a furminator for my two short haired Meezers. It’s great.
