Hi, we got what we thought was a girl kitten around 10 weeks ago and at the time, she definitely looked like a girl. However, as of late, it “looks” like she has the rear end of a boy. She is 16 weeks but there doesn’t seem to be signs of any testicles, but I was wondering – when do they usually appear?
My girlfriend noticed this the other night and has planted this seed of doubt in my mind and it is doing my head in! Just wondering if anyone is a bit more clued up about this than me…
All help appreciated. Thanks!20 November, 2011 at 5:28 pm #706595

Hi Phil. I would say a vet check is in order as well as scheduling a spay/neuter (depending on what the kitty turns out to be!) It is the BEST thing you can do for your new furry family member!20 November, 2011 at 6:24 pm #70659620 November, 2011 at 11:38 pm #706597
Bronson was thought to be a boy until a second check at the vet said she was a girl. i would have liked a boy, but I love Bronson with all my heart. she is a clutz and not too smart, but she is my living snugglepuss…
Melinda is definently all girl, a very loving, rather dainty girl21 November, 2011 at 5:56 am #706598
I would ask the vet. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the gender of young kittens, especially long haired. Testicles should be there by now if he is a boy, but they will be rather small, like the size of a pomegranate seed or a currant. The kitten should see the vet soon anyway for her or his dabs and general wellness check.
We once got a cat that we thought was a boy, but when we took him to be neutered, the vet called and said he was actually a girl and that she needed to stay overnight! (standard protocol for spays)21 November, 2011 at 8:12 am #706599
Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking the same thing – if she was a boy, she should have them by now. I think its just my other half freaking me out by even thinking it lol.
I will give it another week or two and if nothing by then, I know she’s definitely a girl lol. Thanks for all the replies, I will let you know the outcome.21 November, 2011 at 2:24 pm #706600
Sorry to make this more complicated, but technically he could still be male. Some male kittens have undescended testicles that stay in the abdomen.21 November, 2011 at 2:30 pm #706601
Ahhhhh don’t say that! lol. She’s way too cute to be a boy! I am gonna have to check her/him again when I get home. I think a trip to the vets or some sort of cat expert is in order. If she was a boy, would my other two male cats keep sniffing and licking round her private bits? Thats one of the reasons I also think she is a girl.
The boys don’t lick each other really, but both of them tend to lick her a lot. Could that have any indications or is that just a cat thing?21 November, 2011 at 3:24 pm #706602
are your boy kittehs neutered yet?21 November, 2011 at 6:30 pm #706603
If the boys are getting interested in her, it’s definitely time to get her (or him)done.21 November, 2011 at 6:48 pm #706604
Growing up we had a cat that was a male but you couldn’t tell until we took him to the vet! Just as Ladysky mentioned. Blackie was the most mellow kit…22 November, 2011 at 12:37 am #706605
sorry but lol. as they grow, the little fluffballs shall start to show up. keep waiting.29 November, 2011 at 7:42 am #706606
They started appearing recently… and me and the Mrs are both gutted lol. Having said that, he is a very cute boy lol. We now have 3 boy cats at home. But they all get on really well and don’t fight so its all good. Looks like a trip to the vets is on the cards lol.
Thanks guys29 November, 2011 at 8:03 am #706607
