On December 29, 1777 this warm and hearty soup was first made to serve the Continental Army, earning it’s reputation as “the soup that won the war.”

Ohhhhhhhhhhh KZ your weather sounds icy cold. Keep cozy and warm until the ‘heatwave’.
PG you too with the icy cold temps. I am beginning to think I had better turn the fans towards the US to assist with a thaw.
KJ, we play Cards against Humanity when the family are all visiting and it’s hilarious. -22C Yikes ! I think you might have the lowest temp here on TDK. Please be careful when you are out. Ouch on your banged knee and ribs. Keep applying arnica to help with the pain and healing. Oh I see your stomach has been playing up again, that sucks monkey toes. You just don’t feel right when your tummy is upset.
Dorry, time to gt out your nurses uniform again but first will you put away your toys. Good lad.
Today Airy and KK decided to take a walk on one of the many walking/cycling tracks around the city. Of course it was hot and sunny too. We walked for about an hour then got sushi and cold drinks and ate on a blanket in a local park. After that I was a limping right off for the rest of the day but my knees are slowly coming out of shock. LOL
We are getting dry again here and hoping for some rain soon.
HRH is improving on her eating and she is coming inside at night and playing hog as many beds as she can. She is loving having her big sister home and they have fallen into their usual habits with each other.
Time for me to head to bed after my long and active Friday.

Odd, for me pepper-pot is a soup (or stew) from the Caribbean:

https://www.saveur.com/pepper-pot-soup-recipe Their version is vegetarian, but I think the one I had was made with chicken stock.

And the Guardian’s Word of Mouth blog says that the “Philadelphia” version is of Caribbean origin as well. It certainly reads like a Caribbean recipe:

Actually, I like all the other ingredients shown for hearty winter fare – just not the tripe (and yes, I have eaten tripe; nowadays one can get very free, odour-free tripe, but I simply don’t find it very interesting, and don’t eat much beef at all any more).

Wouldn’t be surprised if some tripe finds its way into cat and dog food, but that stuff is so processed that I’m sure they don’t notice it. And we won’t even discuss their food preferences when they are strays or in the wild…

It’s the last Friday of 2017! 😯 It’s overcast today but the temp. is up to 55f/12c. You’ll be up and about after giving your legs a rest, MS. I finally got the courage to climb steps. I did OK and my knee didn’t hurt. It ached a bit in the evening but my thighs ached more. Go figure.

Peppers on pizza are good. I’m sure they brought peppers over from the Caribbean.

    Have a happy~

Nothing spicy in my near future! Not sure what will/will not work.

Last 2 prs of boots (for now) won’t arrive ’til next Tues. I don’t quite get it as CAD Post delivered my stuff within 2 days, whatever.

And ordered some cheques from bank. Specifically told them that I only wanted my name on them. So of course my name/address/phone no. were on them. They were so apologetic that I did not let the CS person have it. I for sure do not need all of my purrsonal info there for all to see!

Anyway I’m whacked out and so hoping that my situation abates. Rib a bit better though.

Snowing out and still like -35C. Peeps ask how I manage. IMHO they are spoiled having cars and for the most part lazy. Anyway there is no bus that will get me to the gym and I’m for sure not taking a cab as I’d get stressed out waiting and I’m way faster walking anyway.

Knitting Circle not on today, not that I would have gone, I dont think. Have not done much knitting all week.

So I plan to be back in Café on the last Caturday night of 2017. Have a good one all!

Hi all – Another frigid day here in Jersey. Maybe if we aim our Northern and Southern Hem fans at each other, temps will level out. Yesterday it was so cold the gauges on my truck didn’t work. I have remote start though, which has come in mighty handy over the last few days. They’re saying there’s no relief in sight.

Today is the sad anniversary of my dad’s passing. I like to think of him walking with a very special someone who also loves the animals, and if there’s a way to get to the Meadow, he, and He, visits there.

I’ve never had pepper pot soup, at least I don’t think so. Purrhaps I’ll try Lagatta’s recipe. Tonight we are having home made creamy tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Miss Berta spent the night in the house again last night. She gets restless around 5:30 or so. Dewey has another wound on him, and though it’s large and raw, it doesn’t look like an abscess. I want him to stay in so as not to expose it to the elements, and he isn’t arguing!

I can feel the excitement rising in the café in anticipation of the new year. Meadow kitties will put on a magic show, so if you listen closely over the next few days, you might hear a chorus of purrs, even though you don’t see any cats. Don’t worry, they see you!

No, I don’t think peppery dishes are a good idea for someone with stomach upset. I had to eat bland food for a while in the autumn, due to complications from a UTI, and I hate bland food, so I ate practically nothing. I only ingested boullion.

    Poor Dewey!

And death anniversaries are always hard.
