It’s a non-denominational celebration that originated on Seinfeld – promoted by none other than the inimitable Kramer!

Good morning – believe it or not I was not into Seinfeld. Have seen a few episodes, and clips from their more notorious episodes, but just never got into it. Oh well, funny bunch of actors though.
As we were sitting down for dinner last night I turned just in time to see the tree falling. Somehow between grabbing the tree and tripping over my toppled chair, I managed to stay standing and kept the tree from falling over while hubby straightened and re-secured it, apparently better than what we thought was already secure. About a dozen ornaments fell off, but amazingly, only one broke, but not seriously. 2 mice sit atop a six pack of Coca Cola, sipping out of one of the bottles. Both mice fell off but were easily reattached, but one mouse is without his straw. Not bad, all things considered!

JJ, again great minds … I never watched a single “Seinfeld” ep. Not my kind of humour. To each their own. ๐Ÿ™‚

Purrfect spin class then did the litter run – don’t want to run short over hol closure. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Then some hazeling. All done so it’s off to last Knitting Circle of the yr as not on next Fri. On way plan to stop by vets and p/u furry themed calendar as donation to branch of our SPCA.

Have a great rest of Fri all and JK, happy holiday!

I honestly thought Festivus was a legit holiday. I was informed it was a Seinfield “holiday.” I didn’t watch many episodes.

It sounds as if the tree magically fell over, JJ. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love your tree JK. Very minimalist and, dare I say, cat proof!

Have a blessed Hanukkah and Merry Christmas! Mwah!

Love the tree, JK – have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful weekend!
Hubby went on a litter run too, KJ, and picked up a few other things.
There very well may have been magic involved, PG. Every year I hang a starfish ornament at the bottom of the tree, the ornament that Shaddo sent spinning wildly after getting a taste of scrambled eggs and cheese on Christmas morning. I keep it there just in case he wants to come back and give it a spin.
Had a visit from late neighbor’s daughter today. She wanted to see how I was doing with the cats and sneak a peek at her mom’s house. When she went out the back door I heard her say, “Oh, there’s Roberta!” referring to Berta sleeping on the chair outside. Her voice cracked as she spoke, she loved that little dilute calico the most and was honored that I named her for her mother. She brought a case of cat food, wasn’t that nice? I gave her a rustic “Merry Christmas” wooden sign that I bought at the market, not knowing who I was buying it for. I thought it would be nice for her to be able to bring a little bit of Shady Lake home with her.
Due to having company, I managed to do some decorating and cleaning, at the expense of upstairs, which is a flurry of boxes and stuff I needed out of the way! I even decorated the row of outdoor shelters with a bit of garland and a couple of ornaments. I finished decorating the little tree in the front yard too. It’s had lights on for a few weeks, but needed ornaments. Originally it was “Leela’s Tree”, since due to the home reno she didn’t have a Christmas tree on her first Christmas, but with the arrival of Comet, then Mac, and by extension the JJ crew, is now known as “The Cats’ Tree”. Ironically, it was given to us by our elderly neighbors; Russ and Roberta were still ambulatory enough to come over and see it when we planted it.

    Good morning all.
It’s Christmas Eve Day here. Only one more sleep until Santa rides his sleigh through the night skies. Oops, is my inner child showing. ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜†
I have a set of bells that sound like what I imagine sleigh bells should sound like and I am considering going out into the dark night tonight and jingling them and ‘Ho Ho Ho-ing’. Who knows the local children may hear tell their parents they heard Santa. ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†
This morning Meegz,Airy and KK went off to climb the local extinct volcano but gave up after the first set of steps and decided to walk around it instead. LOL. Airy and KK are both starfished and whimpering on their beds now – too much exertion. Should have stayed home and done Christmas food preparations with me.
I have made the very Kiwi chip dips(impossible to explain, has to be tasted)de-seeded the pomegranate for the salad and am about to shell and chop pistachios for the sponge roll filling with raspberries. Yesterday I made a Christmas meatloaf(white meats) with cranberries and cubes of green capsicum for the Season effect. Also having ham, a Greek/salsa mix salad and finishing up with the sponge roll filled with whipped cream, pistachios and fresh and frozen raspberries and cheesecake filling in brandy baskets with crumbed ginger biscuits topping with fresh fruit. Not to forget Great Danes Christmas nuts for pre dinner nibbles(recipe on TDK thread). Our entire Christmas dinner is cold because it is so warm/hot here.

Yesterday Airy and I tied a band around the top of the interior chimney and then tucked long tinsel streamers into that and draped them down over the firebox for an alternative tree. We wrapped the chimney in lights too. It looks great and was a lot less trouble than getting the tree and all the decorations out. The Christmas star is sitting front centre. We have decorated the outdoor screens with strings of solar lights.
JJ, how sweet and thoughtful of Roberta’s daughter to bring food for the Joan’s Junction Crew and she was rewarded with seeing Berta looking so cozy. Now you know who that sign you bought was for. Fate has a way of making this link up.
Lunch time now and then it will be more prepping for tomorrow. Meegz and SIL will come for breakfast(and presents) tomorrow and then my extended family Christmas dinner followed by a short rest before Mr MS’s family evening Christmas dinner.

MS, your dinner prep sounds fabulous! I agree, cold meals are purrfect for a hot day. Your home decorating sounds great too.
Many years ago my parents came up to my house for a visit. Dad was brandishing sleigh bells. I promptly put them on the back door, where they remain year-round. The inside joke is that many years before that the sleigh bells on the back door of my parents’ house was the thing that was forgotten about when the Christmas decorations were packed away. It was decided that the bells were actually a good thing as they announced that someone was coming through the door. I’ve gotten used to the sound on my own back door as well.
Climbing an extinct volcano sounds fun! It also sounds exhausting.

MS–love hearing of your dinner preparations and the starfishing of the daughters–how like them to be starfish when mother is downstairs doing all the work! Children revert to girls and boys when coming back home don’t they? And we love them for it! Your dinner sounds delicious too!

JJ, loved the story about Roberta’s daughter coming to check on the cats and bringing food. So glad that Berta was outside where she could see her. I have pictures in my head of your tree with it’s ornaments!

Trying to get things wrapped and pick up last minute items. The stores are a madhouse with impatient people doing the same thing. I had to get more boxes to finish wrapping or I wouldn’t have gone near any stores! Well, best get back to it–and I think it might be my jammie time too!

best-laid plans of mice and men oft go astray !

No truer word was said especially for today. I am just home from several hours in ED. My dear Mother broke her ankle ! She twisted it getting up to answer her cell phone.
Thankfully it is just a small break but still a break. She is now sporting a moon boot and has a walking frame and crutches. Sister KK will be at her beck and call while she is staying there. She is fine and we are planning to decorate her moon boot and walker so she will cut a dashing figure at Christmas Church service tomorrow morning. ๐Ÿ™‚
KZ you are correct about children reverting to boys and girls when they come home and some parents revert with them too. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†
Time for dinner here and then we have some catching up to do on the food prep.

We celebrated the Solstice, so didn’t bother with Festivus. But it can be a fun remedy for Christmas overkill (I’m not referring to religious observance, but all the glitz and glitter).

I’m not a TV watcher, except for the news and documentaries (some of which I’d worked on) so the only times I’ve ever seen Seinfeld is on planes, when they showed old TV shows after the feature films.

MERRY CHRISTMAS MS, JCAT AND YOUR FAMILIES!

I hope you had a peaceful SOLSTICE LAGATTA!

Isn’t part of thrill of Christmas is to becoming a child again!!

Ouch for your Mom. I hope her ankle heals quickly. Your dessert sounds delish MS.

I made the same mistake of going near the stores yesterday. I wanted to get the kids some stocking stuffers, KZ. ๐Ÿ˜ก But if I hadn’t waited until the last minute…did you know that women are least likely to let others merge into traffic.

How sweet that you decorate the gangs’ tree too, JJ.
