It’s National Junk Food Day, an opportunity to eat whatever you like and as much of it as you like!

    Yea its Fluffy Friday!

Junk food is extra tasty which is why we want it so much. Everyday, I have to say no. “I burned 2 calories-hand over the Cheetos!”

Tomorrow is my last day of the MOVE program. Now, I have to apply what I’ve learned. I finally got an appointment with Ortho so I have to be bright eyed and bushy tailed on Tuesday morning. Yea!

Here’s an extra smile for efurryone! 🙂

I don’t have much of an appetite today, as I’d had sort of a woozy stomach due to the combination of the extremely hot, humid weather here yesterday and having to spend many, many hours working on the computer with clients waiting for documents. It is a rush period both for summer festivals and for grant requests by artistic companies…

Feel much better today, but not much appetite, so little danger of falling into junk food: the challenge is more forcing myself to eat a bit of healthful food such as the little bowl of goat’s milk yoghourt I’m slowly ingesting.

I’m not a great fan of most forms of junk food, but that doesn’t exclude other foods that are rich or high in calories, such as CHEESE 😛 or high in carbs such as pasta and good bread. Then there are items that are nutritious in many ways but usually fried, such as falafel (which I love). Haven’t eaten any recently, but a rundown in Montreal Eater (a blog) has me craving them.

Well lagatta, it’s Friday and I say you should have your falafel!! 😀

We just had a 2 hours thunderstorm that I swear dumped 2 inches of rain on us! Wow, had to wait to give Avery a bath–just too much lightening. So glad it’s Friday and a pretty lazy day for us here. No where we have to be so we can read books to Avery and watch cartoons. She is walking some on her foot, very gingerly, and she did tell me that popcorn would make it better before she drifted off to sleep.

Peso’s 2nd vet appointment went well. He went from 1.8 lbs. to 4.1!!! He doesn’t feel good after that shot, poor little guy. But he should feel better this afternoon, if last time is any indicator. He will go for his neuter in a little under a month from now!!

I see that the pita bread I already have on hand is on the “good” side on that list. But now the picture of the frites (chips, fries) makes me want some… With fish, of course.

An interesting subtopic is the many flavours and types of junk and snack food one finds in supermarkets and street markets in different countries. I always enjoy strolling through supermarkets with my trolley and looking at things that seem strange to me as our junk and snack food seems strange to people from elsewhere.

A confession – I HATE poutine, which is supposed to be the iconic snack food from Québec. I rarely eat frites, though I do like them, but if I ever indulge in them, I don’t want the crispness overlaid with heavy, gluey sauce.

Hi all! ….. I’m not a fast food person, I can’t say when the last time I had a McDonald’s meal …. probably almost 3 decades when I took my kids there for a treat once (it was a rare occurance in our household). My junk food is (NOT bananas) my favorite Southern treat – BOILED PEANUTS!! I simply crave them 😉

I also like to snack on cheese and popcorn …..

Well, TGIF!! My work is done, so I’m going to watch the British Open with Mr. AV until I meet some clients for dinner …. hope ya’ll have a great evening and will probably see ya on the flip on Caturday!!

KZ, glad that Miss Avery is doing better. I would think that popcorn would definitely help. 😉

Lagatta, there is no way in this world that I would go near poutine! There’s probably a kosher version somewhere, or one could make one with kosher veggie faux meat. But still, thinking about it nauseates me. LOL

I may move fast, but I’m def not a fast food grrrl!

Feel weird as today I did diff things than I usually do on Fri. Stomach was not good in middle of night so good that I could sleep in a bit and do noon spin class.

Now I have decided to change up my pantry with new shelf liners, just for something to do that’s in the realm of organization. Knitting Circle will be back on next Fri.

Post office mystery solved. Seems that my order of 2 prs of sandals got split up as I guess one pr had to be sourced. So I now have a very lovely pr of comfy lime green sandals, the snakeskin look ones should arrive next week. Where to put them??? That’s the sort if challenge that I like to have. 🙂 I think that I have sandals in efurry colour, save yellow, but one never knows.

I love the beautiful Carmen Miranda tuxie, Jeankit.

There is kosher poutine, but it is Frankenfood requiring ersatz substances for the “chicken” gravy, but many mainstream poutine recipes use those. Idem vegetarian poutine – vegan poutine would also require fake cheese, which is horrible.

Good frites (chips, fries, friet in Dutch-Flemish) are a marvel, but for obvious reasons, should be an occasional indulgence. Without too much mucking up – perhaps one of those Belgian sauces.

So I looked up poutine. I’ll pass.

I like this more better –

Have a good weekend JK and other escapees! 🙂

That is very funny! Actually, there is a kind of brandy or eau-de-vie distilled from maple syrup – hey, anything containing sugar, including the sources of so-called “prison wine”. I’ve never had it; almost never drink hard stuff. Mostly wine.

Well, mostly water obviously… but you know what I mean.

After finishing a huge job, I had some very nice dry white wine from Portugal, with fishy things, a rice I had made with FRESH peas that a neighbour gave me, and some local green salad. Hit the spot.

I do have to remember the falafel. I still have to work today, but will go to the Jean-Talon market (big public + farmers’ market) soon to get some lovely fresh produce that isn’t junk food. It has been extremely rainy here, and some of the berries were disappointing – hope the field tomatoes aren’t all water-logged. But I’m going back to bed for a bit, with Livia. I had a horrible pain in the small of my back from sitting too long at my desk on a rush job, even though I did remember to get up every hour and do some stretches with tiny barbells (the kind that are covered in soft plastic and are 3 or 5lb – obviously for improved stretching, not “weightlifting”.

It is the biggest period for people going on holiday here; the building industry pretty much shuts down for two weeks but so do a lot of other firms.
