Good morning! Why, just yesterday I was pondering what my Eko must have looked like as a small kitten when he showed up with his littermates in a cardboard box on the vet’s doorstep. I think that first pic totally answers my question. Thanks, KJ! We met all our cats as “teenage” kittens so I get to imagine what their wee kitten looks were like.

Yesterday afternoon we had a great time celebrating the end of the school year. We saw the tiger cub at the zoo for the first time. She looks to be a teenager now….about one third the size of the grown tigers. She was off display for a few months because she had hurt her leg somehow. We even continued the celebration by getting Mexican for dinner….even a Margarita for me. The boys shared what their favorite books were that they read for school this year. They still have just a couple of things to finish up today. And I’m planning some summer stuff. Younger son needs some math review, older son needs to learn to type, and I’ll continue Spanish with both of them.

Enjoyed looking over yesterday’s cafe. I love chives, MS so I chucked over your chive/grass combo. Yep, I don’t really know much about gardening except, put mint in pots…maybe basil too….I’ve heard it’s in the same family and likes to invade too.

Morning all! ….. Here ya go, MS and Joan – let me know how it comes out! We love it!

    http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt51/AbbigaleViolet/Orange%20Chicken.jpg

    Orange Chicken

    For the Sauce:
o 1 Cup BBQ Sauce (Sweet Baby Ray’s)
    o 1 Cup Sweet Orange Marmalade (Smucker’s)
    o 2 TBSP Soy Sauce
    Crispy Chicken Ingredients:
    o 3-4 Chicken Breasts (We used 3)
o 1 Cup Flour/1 Cup Cornstarch (You can use both or either/or)
    o 2 Eggs
o Oil – peanut with a splash of sesame
    Cooking Directions:
    1. In a sauce pan, add the BBQ sauce, marmalade, and soy sauce. Turn the heat on low and let it simmer for 20 minutes, stirring a few times.
    2. Meanwhile, cut up your chicken breasts into cubes. In one bowl beat 2 eggs, while the other bowl should mix the dry ingredients.
    3. Dip pieces of chicken in the egg and then cover in flour/cornstarch. Set on an extra plate.
    4. Add a thin layer of oil to a frying pan and turn your stove on medium/high heat. Once it sizzles, add the chicken to the pan. Let it cook for 3-5 minutes each side until it’s brown and cooked on the inside.
    5. Set the oily pieces on a paper towel and let drain.
    6. Add the chicken to the sauce and toss!
    7. To garnish, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and green onion

A couple of side notes – the key to this recipe IMHO is using orange marmalade ….. I’ve read/tried many others that use orange juice and/or zest, but it’s just not as good. MS if you can’t find that brand of BBQ sauce – it’s a tomato/vinegar/brown sugar based kind of sauce, with a tiny spice to it …. I’m sure you can find something similar. Good luck!

Mmm, that looks delicious, AV. I have an orange beef stir fry I used to make in Lubbock that was very good. I might have to pull that recipe out soon. Youngest son (picky eater) doesn’t like beef so that discourages me from making it…but it doesn’t stop me. :). Tonight we’re actually having stir-fry….a chicken/almond/lime stir fry.

Reaching through the wormhole for some of that orange chicken!! YUMMMMM! OMGosh that makes me want some!!
Yes the mints are invasive, so putting them in pots is a good idea. If you sink the pot in the ground, be careful though it doesn’t jump the pot. They have underground runners that will take over. I don’t know if basil is a mint, it’s not invasive, so you can stick it in and forget it….well, not really, because I’m always snipping off leaves for salads and recipes. Once you pull it out, it’s out, but the other mints–if there is even a tiny root underground, it will start all over again.

I can’t believe anyone would harm a cat, let alone a black one on Friday the 13th (or Halloween) or any animal. I have no words. Wait, I DO have words, but I can’t say them here. I would walk on my bottom lip to stop animal abuse.

Good morning – Happy Friday the 13th!
I like the black bunny crossing the guy’s path – you’re doing it wrong!
Wow ECB, what a great celebration you had! The zoo is always fun – glad you got to see the teen tiger. Mexican food is a nice treat too. We had tacos for Cinco de Mayo and I had Smirnoff margarita. The other 5 in the 6 pack are still in the fridge!
Oh yum, AV – thank you for sharing the recipe for orange chicken!

My nephew is owned by two Black cats Hypatia and Brutus (in the Meadow).

I’m happy the teenage Tiger cub is out and about at the zoo. High fives to your sons ECB. I agree that Orange marmalade has a fuller flavor AV.

I fell asleep in the recliner last night so now I feel crunched up. Miss Gaea was telling me I have to mow the back yard because she was sitting in the middle and I could barely see her. It was cute!

    Have a happy~

Good morning on this dreary day…… A little rainy here. LOVE the basket of black kitties! Awww…..
AV… WOW! Love the gorgeous photo AND recipe for the orange chicken. Mmmm… Mmmmm….. thanks for sharing.
I may make some zucchini muffins today. Have been craving them so picked up a small zucchini yesterday.
ECB, glad you were able to get to the Zoo and see the teen tiger. I love the Zoo, but haven’t been there is SO many years.
Yes! Mint is very invasive for sure!!! I love it in my iced tea. My dad always had a ton of chives growing in his garden, right next to the Hens & Chickens. He always planted lots of different flowers also and I remember his tomato plants being trees. Love the smell of tomato vines. I can remember that garden like it was yesterday. *Sigh…..

Still no sign of the hummies or Indigo Bunting. My friend that lives up the road a ways has both since a week ago. Maybe they are here, but I have not actually seen them yet. The Indigo is not singing yet cause I know his song! Crazy weather must be confusing to all the wildlife.

PG, the wee black kit who “has” to be evil … squeeee!!!!!!!! Nephew is cery creative in naming his kits. Sounds like he might have studies Classics at some point?
The last pic, looks like kit’s tiny body is not big enough as yet to hold up his head! More squeee!!!
KZ, I’m with you (although the walking on bottom lip image is tad disturbing!) I have WORDS too, but they would put paid to any assumptions that I am a “lady” – not that this stops me! 😡
Summer today, 21 degrees C, but srs rain imminent. By Sun supposed to be chilly and on Mon, when I have to get up way early for class then appt it drops to 8 degrees!!!! Winter is coming!!!!?????

Awww, JK…that cartoon cat looks like Eko with the pink tongue and yellow eyes. He’s always right there when I have my morning coffee too.

BB, fun that you just made zucchini muffins. I’m trying a new zucchini bread recipe today. Someone gave me some from their garden. I roasted the smaller ones for dinner this week, but saved the big one to make something yummy for Saturday breakfast. I think I’ll add a crumb topping and turn the bread into a coffee cake.

Black cats have crossed my path all day today…YAY!! Comet was his usual ‘pay attention to me!’ self, and Leela stood on the stairs for quite a while, perhaps contemplating tripping someone, notably Comet!
Today started out cloudy and dreary, but the rain held off so after a slow start and a self-push I went out walking/hiking. Now it’s raining pretty steady but happily all my outdoor charges showed up, I think. Being triplets, Huey, Dewey and Louie are sometimes tough to tell apart when they are rain-slicked. Berta tracked me down while I was walking so I walked her home (or maybe she walked me home!). Glad to see Mama Cat as I didn’t see her yesterday – she probably came by while I was out.

With that will say ta ta ’til Monday – must finish up rest of part 2 day 5…wishes for a pawsome next couple of days!
    Mwah, smooch for Tux…later!

Renzo and I were delighting in all those photos and images of black cats and kittens.

Metro (a supermarket chain here, first in Québec but now also in Ontario) has an upper-tier line callled Irresistables (or Irrésistibles in French) and their kettle-style potato chips in that line are on sale 2 for $1.88. Not huge bags, but more than enough calories, alas. Cooked in sunflower oil. Very nice flavours and the plain ones are very good too…

I got caught in the rain today after a grocery run to PA, a Greek supermarket chain that started in Mile-End (no, not the London Mile-End), the neighbourhood just south of mine across railway tracks and a viaduct. Rain was predicted only later in the afternoon, but it hit me in late morning. I had bought some black kale and other things as virtuous as chips/crisps are dodgy, even the “natural” kind.

Totally my notice what with Omris death Monday and now I don’t know what day it is? I just see Yuri as my breathing meowing stuffed animal. Yeah he’s black but I don’t buy into superstitions mostly and 13 is my favorite number. So it doesn’t matter much that it’s Fri the. But then again it feels kinda special to have a black cat on this day. Or any day really. I collect stuffed animals and have all my life. Have 2 black ones making Yuri a third? Sorta. The best part is how he runs around its life. Such a beautiful part of life to watch him active. And when he’s not too.

I’m sorry Omris has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He’s romping in the meadow with the TDK kits. Although he’s not with you he is always watching over you. Who is Yuri?

AV, thank you so much for the recipe for Orange Chicken. It looks delicious. I will find a way to make it even though we don’t get those brands here. What do you serve it with.
