Hi, Buttons! Good to see you! You’ll have to give us an update on your crew when you get a chance.

Canada. What do I think of when I think of Canada? Well, KJ, of course! I’ve only seen one little tiny commercial strip of Canada…near Niagara Falls. The Dennys there was good. :). I’m not sure if I should be admitting that I remember the breakfast food just as clearly as the waterfall…lol.

MS, you deserve a break today! Hope you have a relaxing day.

Aunt and Uncle are treating us to the dinner theater again tonight. So generous of them. We’ll see Beauty and the Beast. Then tomorrow off to the lake for a twenty four (or a little more) hour visit with mom and other family, including aunt, uncle, and cousin. Hubby has an on call (from home….not an on site one) so he’ll stay behind and care for the cats.

I’m baking the same blueberry cake as last weekend to share with folks for Sunday breakfast….and making some coleslaw to add to Saturday dinner.

Awwww ECB, you’re making me feel warm all over!
Glad that I can in some aspect represent Canada for you. I have been to FL a few times, but have not visited Jax.
Buttons, no big celebrations here. There is a city purrade with floats and all, and Dorry feels he should be grand marshall or something equally pompous. There is also a huge Canada b-day cake with supposedly enough pieces for all attendees.
We’re still waiting news on impending postal strike. I wouldn’t care all that much ‘cept that I have a small yarn order allegedly on its way and it would be fun receiving it sometime in near future. Not that I don’t have an “up next” sweater to knit. It’s just that annoying when public service can just walk out or get locked out. Whatever.

Good Friday morning everyone! *she said in a sing songie voice* LOL! It has rained here already and rain is gone. I watched it come straight down, with no wind and something caught my eye–it was a giant toad gallumping across the driveway and ducked into the black-eyed susans for cover. Why is it that toads don’t like to be wet? 😛
KJ, yes you represent Canada for us and was wondering if you had a holiday and big celebrations like we do for everything. Well, we TRY to anyway. Fireworks and cookouts and general laziness all around. Oh, and I’ll take one of the Canadian Cat trees, thanks.
ECB, I need a very big slice of that blueberry cake to have with coffee–that would be my arm sticking through the wormhole. 😮 I had cantaloupe for breakfast this morning. The farmers’ market is starting to have yummy produce coming up from the south. Still too early here though, but I do have little green grape tomatoes on my porch tomato, Avery is gonna go nuts when she sees them!

Happy Canada Day! Dorry can be the Grand Marshall at a TDK purrade – just let Tux and the agency kitties know, they’d love to have a purrade with plenty of pomp!
That other hand in the wormhole is mine, ECB. That cake is awesome! How nice to have another dinner theater treat! Enjoy the lake getaway too.
I hope the possible postal strike holds off till the yarn order comes in, KJ.
Haven’t been to the farmer’s market yet, but the local produce at stores is looking good. A bit early here too, but I bought strawberries and blueberries anyway. Got some watermelon for the weekend too.
KZ, those storms are headed this way later today. It is partly cloudy and there’s a nice breeze.
100% attendance at the cafe for breakfast, yay!

I hope you don’t get stuck with a postal strike.

We had a lovely rain. It started about 8ish and went through the night. This morning is muggy and we’re suppose to get more rain today and tomorrow.
Miss Gaea decided to stay nearby last night. Her BF (boyfriend or best friend-I’m not sure) must not have been around.

I’m going b-day shopping for my nephew. Have a happy~

****Passes fresh blueberry lemon coffee cake through the wormhole****

Whew! I’ve been busy in the kitchen all day. Eko forced me to sit down for some lap time though. :). Will package some raw meat when I’m allowed to stand back up….then laundry and packing. I’ll be ready to sit and dine and watch a show tonight.

    Awesome pic of Dorry, PG!

Don’t look now KJ, but it seems Dorry is the Grand Poobah!
Happy Independence Day, JK. Have a great time and safe travels.
It’s nice of Eko to notice that you needed a break, ECB.
Just saw that there’s a tornado watch for this area, kind of unusual around here. Will keep an eye to the sky – I usually do anyway.

I certainly hope we don’t have a postal strike, as I’m a freelancer and a couple of clients owe me rather large sums of money. Others owe much smaller sums, but they are in my city so I can just go get the cheques. The others are in Gatineau (a Québec city across the Ottawa River from Ottawa (that river is calle the Outaouais in French; the French and English misheard the original name of the Odawa or Odawé people, in different ways) and in Sherbrooke, a city between here and Burlingon Vermont.

As you may well imagine, I’m not celebrating anything these days – just trying to eat and sleep halfway properly. I made an open-faced tart with ewe’s milk ricotta, spinach, spring onions and many herbs from my balcony… The crust I use is more like a pizza crust than a short crust, find the recipe googling Deborah Madison yeasted olive-oil.

My goodness PG – you are super creative and aside from me, you now have made a furry friend for life in the form of Dorry!
Indeed JJ, and as per his “requirements” he’s riding in an open car (Range Rover I believe,) surrounded by ALL the grrrl kitties (so no one feels left out,) with the boy kitties riding motorbikes alongside as his back-up detail. Dorry seems to have a surfeit of ego, but what kit doesn’t. 😉
The sky is darkening (recalls that way old soap “Edge of Night”) Storms are predicted and the high heat/humidity factor bodes srs lightning. Well, I’m indoors so a rainy pm which is said to be extending into Caturday bothers me not at all. Conducive to srs sleep!

That sucks that you might not be able to get paid on time lagatta. The only cheque that I am due is from a client in Toronto, and for the amount it can wait. I guess your client can’t/won’t send cheque via some other delivery service. Interesting how in a strike we are nonetheless responsible for paying our bills by due date, but the same does not hold true for clients. 🙁
BTW, my Dad was born and grew up in Sherbrooke AKA the “Queen City of the Eastern Townships.” We used to spend summers on Little Lake Magog, about 45 min away. I much prefer Mtl, I like big cities.
I do hope that things start to ease up for you emotionally over time.

Well to cap a topsy-turvy week it seems that my washer might be going “the way of the wash.” 😕 The time control thingy seems to have a srs prob. Got one small load done, then holding self back from tinkering with a machine and risking floor or something, left msg for my fix-it guy and called landlord who will be by Sun to check it out. Fortunately dryer still works. And fortunately I have a very nice (clean) laundromat just a block away. And I have loads of their machine tokens from doing heavy loads. So I took second load over and included my bed pillows which I don’t really want to risk in a household machine. Brought stuff back and it’s all drying nice and fluffy. For now this can work, and landlord will have to either get washer fixed, or as it’s way old get a new one for my rental. Which might be the cheaper way to go all told.
So I’m off now, gr8 Caturday all!

I’m not really in any trouble these days. Both of those clients were new clients, and both were referred by a friend in Sherbrooke, who is a veterinarian. I may have mentioned elsewhere that she is working at a clinic that is subsidized somehow (publicly, privately or both) to do spay and neuter for low-income people. Sherbrooke lost much of its industry and a lot of people are working on minimum wage or precarious jobs. She sees a lot of rural poverty, families on marginal farms. So she has no time to do editing, revision and translation jobs and refers them to me. If they were longstanding clients I’d ask for a different method of payment; I have to see how to do PayPal as really paper cheques are so last century…

I like big cities too and would live in Paris if I could afford to, but Sherbrooke is a rather pleasant place with the hills, and also has universities and CÉGEPS (Colleges) French and English language, so there is good cultural access for a small city. Many refugees have settled there; a good friend of mine taught French to refugees from the horrible civil wars in the former Yugoslavia. KJ, Jewish Community of the Eastern Townships: http://jccet.org/ There is quite a history of both Jewish and Lebanese/Syrian small merchants in these smaller towns.

One of my dearest friends, who loves cats as much as we do, lives in Sherbrooke.

It’s my pleasure to show Dorry in his true light!

Have a grand weekend JK and ECB.

Thank goodness all your outdoor crew showed up for b-fast. I hope they don’t get scared from the fireworks.

It’s good to hear that you’re trying to get some food and rest, Lagatta. Your tart sounds delish. 😉

I was running around getting stuff for my nephew’s b-day on Sunday and overdone it. My foot has swelled and hurts.

But other than that I’m good. I started a free course on Corsera about writing and punctuation. I’ve forgotten a lot.

    Have a relaxing Sabbath KJ.
