No I wouldn’t wake him to feed him .. Not unless he became so lethargic his wasn’t moving for hours at a time.. I would feed him when he crys for food and don’t worry about over feeding.. A good appetite is a very good thing for young kittens..

I would get a cardboard box and make a nest in that and place that on the couch beside you that way you can hear him if he crys he may still want one or two night time feeds.. And you don’t want him somewhere he will be startled through the night..

I’m not sure if policy’s have changed they could be different for each country .. But from what I understood the rabies vaccine has to be administered and if the animal is not from a ” rabies free country it will have to be quarantined.. Ireland is only one of a very small few that is classed as a rabies free country .. The EU in not as a whole concidered rabies free .. But some country’s might be slightly more lenient than others when receiving foreign animals.. Your air line will probably be your best port of call for all the up todate information.. ..

Also he looks like what we’d call a Mackerel tabby .. My Avatar is Buttons he recently passed away and he is a mackerel tabby..

I’m pretty strange when I comes to names most of mine are funny ones ..

At the moment we have “Miss Teeny Tiny Nutini” and we have a recent arrival “Little Mr Noodle”

Then we have Dr Jekyll and his sister Miss Hyde and finally Bob their half brother ๐Ÿ™‚

Some of my Meadow kitties are “Lady Muck” who happened to be a boy and we had Maneki Neko after the Japanese beckoning cat she was Also Dr Jekyll , Miss Hyde & Bobs sister from an earlier litter and lastly we had “Smelly Cat” ๐Ÿ™‚

Buttons you are a fountain of knowledge. Thank you! Smelly cat is pure perfection and gives me FRIENDS feels!!! Is ‘Soft Kitty’ or ‘Warm Kitty’ or ‘Litte Ball of Furrrrrr’ in your running for next names?

We’re a bit limited here unfortunately. My suitcase will have to do for tonight. I don’t really want to keep it in the bathroom and disturb it everytime someone has to go. I also don’t think we’ll hear it from there if it meows. =/ I also don’t know where to buy a soft enough blanket. There a tiny pet shop near by. I will probably buy a crate and a blanket for it tomorrow if they have any.. or ask the vet if I can manage to get into see her tomorrow. (fingers crossed ;3 ) Probably the safest place I could put it. Will a kitten be okay in a crate though or is it too dark and not open enough (like a box would be). I will ask my friend in the morning if she knows where to get a box if that is the case.

Well when I say the airline needs a crate to ship an animal .. I mean it’s a kinda heavy dutie carrier with mesh and areas for food and water bowls .. Again the airline will have the specifics as each animals will require a different size crate and the airline will probably tell you where you can get the specific crate for your little fella some quarantine facilities may well sell on old used crates ..

I only know these things because we had looked in to moving for work to New Zealand a year ago and we would have had to transport 3 dogs, and at least 2 cats at the time.. Thankfully we decided we could never leave West Cork it’s too beautiful!

But things are changing all the time and what right for one airline or country are different for others..

Suitcase is a great idea.. I hope you enjoy your time in Ireland too ๐Ÿ™‚ I am originally fromWicklow but grew up in Dublin and now have lived for over 10 years in West Cork ๐Ÿ™‚ if you get a chance you have to come to West Cork it’s a spectacular part of Ireland! I will never move from here now!

You’re in Cork? After Dublin I was planning on visiting Cork and Galaway! Super jealous. ;3

I didn’t mean an airline crate. Just something small we could put him in the car with and some place he can sleep for the next 3 weeks. Buying an airline crate I would do a lot of research into because a friend of ours traveled with their dog and the crate opened. Dog was out running with the luggage when they opened the hold. Luckily she wasn’t hurt and the pilot, the luggage men and my friend easily got the dog out of the plane and on a leash.

Unless this kitten dies before the evening of the 10th (I hope she doesnt!!) I’ve had to cancel my plans to Ireland because of her. VOCAL can’t take her until the 27th. ONE DAY I will make it to Ireland!!! One of my favorite actors is Irish and I just fell in love with photos of Dublin.

I am so sorry my grammar is atrocious. Not a lot of sleep tends to make my words make no sense or just worded very awkwardly.

Oh yes the pet shop should have suitable metal crates for car travel purposes ๐Ÿ™‚ and he’s so small still he’ll be fine in that as your travel..

Oh scary stuff about yours friends dogs crate ๐Ÿ™ thank god he wasn’t hurt! And at least you know to be extra cautious ..

Well I deffinately hope he’s a fighter and stays with us I’m sure he will ๐Ÿ™‚

One thing to be prepared for though is an airline might not allow him to travel untill he’s 10-12 weeks old and by that stage he will be old enough to have had all his vaccinations.. Some vaccines have to be given at seperate times 2-3 weeks apart..

Only watched Sherlock Holmes on the tube but really liked Irene Adler as smart woman and nemesis LOL.
OK, two more names to put out there. Perseus (Percy) and Andromeda (Andy). That’s it, that’s all. Blessings that as yet unnamed kitty comes through early days and grows into healthy (older) kitten stage.

Well today she is still up. Ate a little bit and peed A TON — I hope that is normal?? Still no poop. But it is still early here.

I’m sure I will send you guys more status updates and silly questions as she and I go through this. She looks strong. So hopefully she can make it through all this. Fingers crossed.

Again, I can’t thank all of you enough for holding my hand.It is a terrifying experience this. This forums is amazing and you are all blessed people.

    THANK YOU!

Your very welcome Koren.. We’re all here to help if we can..

Peeing is fine sounds normal after all he is on KRM .. It’s if the frequency changes and he starts to pee a lot or strains to urinate or if there is blood in urine is when a vet is needed but he sounds just fine..

Also forgot to say if the vet tests him for FIV & FeLV ( feline leukemia) don’t be surprised if he tests positive many young kittens will test positive if their mother had it but it quite possible that this is a false-positive test as kittens can carry the mothers antibodies for these viruses Up until a few months old so it’s always recommended to retest after 3 months ..as it could just have been a transient infection..

Yeah, I will have to wait for FeLV, but will try to get her in as soon as she is old enough as I do have other cats and don’t want to pass it on to them…. Can anyone explain how FeLV is transmitted? I read the FIV is if they get into fights and blood/saliva is pasted on. Is that correct?

He will be about 15 weeks (three months) when I can bring him home. So I will probably have him tested before we take him all the way home. VOCAL has offered to find her a home in Europe if for some reason I can’t bring her home, but it is difficult for me to let the little girl go after all this… ๐Ÿ˜•

FIV is really only transmitted through deep bite wounds.. Thats really the only way another cat can contract FIV.. And cat with FIV can live very long healthy lives as long as they’re wormed regularly and up to date vaccinations and ideal kept indoors to avoid picking up any infections.. The virus leave cats with a lower immune system.. My Bob is FIV positive and I give him daily L-lysine as it’s a natural anti Viral and boost a cat immune system.. He is over 3 1/2 now and he is Infact an outdoor cat but he is neutered doesn’t fight and I worm him regularly .. He recently had a chest infection but it cleared after three days with antibiotics ( which I try not to use as FIV cats at some stage might have a nasty infection that needs a lot of antibiotic an the more you use them the less effective they are so I try not to use them incase a day comes when they really need to work)

FeLV is a completely different story.. It’s a nasty nasty virus.. Like FeLV some kittens will have transient infections and they will retest Negative .. My Buttons ( my avatar and meadow kitty) tested positive for FeLV at a year old and it was a complete shock because he was an indoor only cat form 8 weeks of age.. But I refused to have him put to sleep I drastically changed his diet and designed a vitamin & amino rich & anti oxidant supplement plan and 6 months later he tested Negative ..

FeLV will almost certainly take a cat before they reach 4 years of age the virus turns cells cancerous and most young cats develop lymphatic cancer or sever anemia . FeLV can be passed on through bodily fluids such as salvia (mutual grooming )urine and feces and biting /blood… It’s recommended that all litter trays and food/water bowls be kept separate .. Some people do have both positive and negative FeLV cats living together but that’s normal because one cat is a lot older with a strong immune system and has the ability to fight off the virus but it’s always recommend to have all cats vaccinated against FeLV if there is any chance they can come into contact with a FeLV positive cat..

So don’t panic if he test positive a retest is always recommend and many kittens retest negative ..

Koren, so glad to hear good news of your kitten. She is so sweet peeking up out of that fuzzy blanket!!! Such good advice about cat diseases from Buttons–she is more knowledgeable about these things than I. I only know that a lot of them aren’t the death sentence that they were once thought to be and I am so grateful for that! I so hope she will be going home with you…..

Sorry i haven’t posted for awhile.

We had a vet appointment today! She has a good heart beat/rate. 300 grams and they gave her something for worms. She has slept a decent amount today and has been SUPER active!

She is a girl. It’s official xD

The vet did say we should feed her about 4 times a day and she should eat about 15cc each time… but she meows a lot between feedings and when she does eat (while she eats a ton and WAY too quickly for my comfort) she doesn’t usually eat 15cc all at once…. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Vet also said she doesn’t have anything to poop yet. She thinks the kitten didn’t have food for about 3 days before we picked her up.

Thank you Buttons for all that helpful information!!! That all actually made sense to me xD haha

All wonderful news!! I think if you can just feed her when she wants it.. For a 3 weeks old only 4 feeds a day seems a bit too little.. And 300grms is right on target for a 3 week old so she’s a good weight…

If you feed her when she wants it then you won’t have here downing too much too fast because she’s overly hungry.. You don’t want kitten to drink too fast incase the milk goes down the wrong way that could lead to other issues..
