Do they appear to be healthy? Are you willing to care for them? If not, are you willing to try to find a “kitten rescue” or a friend, or a vet’s office who will care for them? If, so, can you catch them and bring them inside? Keep an eye out for the mother, too, and try to bring her inside with the kits, if possible. Do you know if the mother is a feral? If the mother isn’t turning up within a few hours, you may need to go to a Pet store (Petsmart or Petco, if available) and get some KMR (kitten milk replacement) and a small bottle, syringe, or something you can use to hand feed the kits. Please don’t try to give them cow’s milk, it can make them sick. At four weeks, they are not completely weaned to eating solid food yet. Do you have the time to nurse 5 kittens for the next few weeks? It is quite a “full-time” job when they are so little. Also, you may want to take them to a vet, just to have them checked over, and to get some “parenting” advice from the vet and his staff…. There are many other posters here who have much knowledge and some with first hand experience fostering small kittens who can give you more advice. Because it’s the holiday weekend you may have to check back and *bump* this thread to make sure they have a chance to read it and help. Welcome to TDK, and good luck! Please post any more questions you may have about these sweet babies.

I am not familiar enough with baby kittens but I think you also have to stimulate them to use the restroom. Not sure how you do that. I am sure someone more knowledgeable can help. Hopefully they will be on soon.

I only know this, CM, from watching The Animal Channel. A mama cat would lick their little bottoms and that stimulates them to poo and pee. So you need to take a wash cloth and gently rub their little bottoms.

I am fostering 3 baby kittens right now. I got them from rescue at 3 weeks of age (they are now 6 weeks)…I was told about stimulating them also. But, just in case, I put out a litter box and they seemed to know what to do immediately. At 4 weeks I did start wet food made into a soupy mix with KMR/water and they took to it right away. Part of the reason I started wet food early is because they were biting through the nipples on a regular basis.

Please look out for the mama first, she may just be moving her litter and is out there getting other babies, and will return.

Others here I’m sure can give you a lot more advice. Good luck and keep us posted.

At 4 weeks they can eat canned wet food and drink water and do their business without mama-I captured Patches at 4 1/2 weeks after checking with my vet first. It is, of course, preferable if they can have mama too. Perhaps she moved them there to get them out of danger. If they are younger, it’s a different story. At 4 weeks they are playing with each other & running around. If they are wobbly on their legs they are younger. I would put out food & water & see if mama shows up.

It seems quite likely that the kittens mama put them under the porch. She may have gone off hunting and planning to return. If she is feral, it would be wonderful to catch her and the litter so they can be spayed/neutered and placed in homes (at least the kittens might be tamed enough to be placed in homes). If you have a “no kill” shelter in your area or a cat rescue group, those would be a good places to take this little family. Please don’t take them to a kill shelter.

I would leave the kittens where they are as Sheba’s Mom suggested, with food and water.

susankecm…If there are other ferals in the area tho, putting food & water near them might be putting them in danger. Some male toms will kill kittens. I don’t mean to scare you by that, but, it has been known to happen. I just recently found & rescued 5 kittens(3 wks.old) from a Siamese I’ve been trying to trap for 3 yrs.,not yet,but will be successsful(if it kills me-lol).Altho it can be trying on the mother, they might be safest with you bringing them inside. If she should move them again,it may be somewhere your not able to find them later. That can turn into a whole lot more feral cats. This elusive Siamese has had 4 litters already (all eventually caught & fixed) & if I don’t trap her soon she will be pregnant with number 5. See if you can borrow a trap from Animal Control & bait the mother into it using a kitten as bait. Best of Luck to you!!

Any news on the kittens? Hoping they are safe and that you’ve thought of a way to help them into loving homes. 🙂

KW… I echo your concern. I’m still not thru enjoying my little brood I just rescued not long ago. I’m so glad I had an opportunity to nurture them, even for just a few days. I now have their picture up as my background screen.

So when I get on the puter the first thing I do is squeeeeeeeeeel in delight.
