on sunday (July 29th ’12) I decided to foster 4 newborn kittens, they r now 6 days old and as of 2 days ago they have been sleeping from about 3-4am (their last feeding) until 11-12 in the morning….during the day they r eating about every 2.5 hrs. they’re going to the bathroom on their own purring away and eating just fine. I just want to make sure that this is ok. They seem to b ok but I’ve never done this b4 so I want to hear from ppl that have experience:)

Jaay, this thread has links to sites that provide the kind of advice you need:

People who have hand-raised kittens seem to find the “messybeast” site particularly helpful.

Wow – six day olds that poop by themselves and sleep through the night? Consider yourself very lucky lol. While it’s uncommon, it does happen sometimes. I have three at the moment, they are about a week and a half old. Two behave like “typical” newborns – they cry every couple of hours for food or attention, cannot pee or poop without stimulation. But the other one has been pooping on his own for a few days now. I try to catch him before it happens since it’s super messy when he poops on himself.

I’d say that if your babies are acting okay otherwise (eating regular, no bad diarrhea or constipation, no fever, no vomiting, no bloating) then this behavior is fine. A little unusual, but fine 🙂

As long as they are active, (as active as newborns can be), gaining weight, eating regularly, and not crying, they should be ok. Could be that the kittens are a little older than you though they were when you rescued them.

If you started to foster them on the 29th, that would make them 2 weeks old, not 6 days. It could also be that they were already a week old when you rescued them. Hard to tell.

I looked at my calendar wrong…it was the 4th….2 still had their umbilical cords when I got them…some1 found them abandoned, checking every few hrs for the ‘mom’ who never showed back up and posted them to facebook so thats how I ended up with them. their eyes aren’t open yet but everything as far as weight, temp and eating ect they r doing as expected. they r the most adorable things I’ve ever seen in my life<3 but I’d like to think they r possibly closer to 10 or 11 days old hopefully they’ll b opening their baby blues in the next few days….thank u all for the feedback..I’ll continue to post so u all kno how they r doing:)

they r starting to open their eyes the tiniest amount today so I’m guessing they actually were 2 or 3 days old when I got them….maybe their mom was moving them to a safer place and was hurt or killed after the move and thats why she didnt return:'(
