I have been fostering 3 abandoned kittens that were 3 weeks old and they are now 6 weeks old. No clue where mommy went, she just dropped the kittens under a bush. They were seen by the vet 2 weeks ago and dewormed with liquid dewormer at the time and were not dehydrated or anything. There is 2 boys and a girl. I stopped bottle/nipple feeding them about a week ago and give them their milk in saucers warmed up.

At this point the girl seems to be progressing much faster than the 2 boys. She is bigger and is able to clean herself really well and uses the litter box all the time. She will eat Iams wet canned kitten food in chicken flavor and also likes to crunch on Science Diet dry kitten food also. She drinks water without issues. She still likes a taste of her milk and I am wary about removing it from her diet totally.

The 1 boy will sometimes eat the wet canned food but he mostly still wants to have his Hartz kitten milk replacement and will cry until I give that to him. he doesn’t seem to have any interest in water either. He isn’t as consistent with the litter box or cleaning but he is doing good mostly.

The other little boy is my main concern. He is smaller and he won’t touch wet canned food but occasionally I see him biting on dry kitten food but very little. He will only drink the milk replacement and he tends to suck at it like it’s from the bottle. It takes him so long to eat that sometimes he starts to fall asleep while drinking the milk. He won’t take a bottle, he just chews the nipple and destroys them so I have tried that. He seems to be getting enough to eat because he does play with toys and his siblings just not even a quarter as much as they do. He uses the litter sometimes… often I catch him in a corner of the room going and have to move him to the litter box to try to train him but he just doesn’t seem to get it. But he does pee and poop normally. He seems slow… he stares off at nothing and mostly just wants to sit on my lap. Really calm cat. Does that have something to do with this?

How can I get the 2 boys to be more like their sister? I feel like there is more I can be doing to get them to progress in growing up. Looking for tips and tricks here!

Hi Silvrique! I don’t have too much experience with weaning kittens YET (mine is 9 days old today) but I think they are like kids, they do things at their own pace! They sound adorable – pics please! 😀 Anyways, sorry I am not much help, but good luck with your foster babies! <3

I wasn’t sure how to post pictures so here is a link to my Flikr I setup for them. Wish I could get better pictures but they keep zooming around and moving like little bugs!

Neela is the little girl that is doing amazing, she has 7 toes on each front paw.

Nico is the little boy who is sorta in between.

Agent Orange is the red/orange tabby who is stuck on formula.

They are precious! Sometimes they may have different gestational ages, meaning mama was a hussy! So the little one may be a week younger and is still catching up.

A lot of our experts are in another hemisphere and they will see this when they come online and will offer you advice and guidance, so just hang in there.

Thank you for saving these little lives!

As an update to this I decided to try Science Diet chicken flavored wet canned food. The little chunks in gravy. All 3 of them seem to love it! My own 2 cats never seemed to care for the chunk kind of cat food so I didn’t think about it until this morning.

Awwww they are so sweet <3 That age is hard to capture pictures unless they’re sleeping! LOL! Glad to hear they all like the new food! 🙂
