I’ve used this site already several times and you all have been so helpful with my kitty! I figured I’d finally introduce myself and my furry friend (and figured out how to change my avatar photo). I have a 4 month old black kitten named Simba. Simba is a female…long story she is named after a female black kitty named Mufasa who earned her name from a sarcastic engineer who thought he was being funny. If you met her though, she is definitely one of those females with enough spunk to need a male name. Simba was born behind the school I teach at in Colorado to a feral mom and we rescued the lot at 4 weeks old before a bad April snowstorm. One of my students fostered and weaned them until 10 weeks and I finally adopted my baby. The others have been adopted to good homes! I didn’t plan on getting a pet other than my frog humphrey, especially not a cat (always been a dog person) because my schedule is so crazy and money is tight but when the furball fell asleep in my arms after we pulled her out of a generator I knew she had to be mine! Now she is crazy and has the strongest kitty personality I have ever seen! Thank you for all the help you have given us (goat’s milk is a godsend) and the help I know we will need in the future!

Hi Megan, so lovely to hear the background story of your kitty Simba. Thank goodness the kittens were found before the snowstorm and well done to your student who raised them, it’s not an easy job. It’s great that all the kittens have found good homes.
Simba sounds like a strong personality, you could be in for some fun over the years with her.
We have many people come here who thought they were dog people but then a cat comes into their lives and you know the rest.
Did you say frog? Humphrey the frog is your pet. I love frogs but all mine are china and the more real looking the better.
My avatar is my black dappled torti Moonshadow aka HRH Shadz. She is 13 years old now and of course rules the roost here.

Your kitty is cute! She looks like she could rule the roost!

Yes I have a five year old African Clawed frog named Humphrey my brother gave me in college. Had him since he was a tadpole and Simba LOVES watching him swim around and making me nervous! She is certainly a strong personality but when she curls up against me to sleep all her antics are forgiven 🙂

Sorry I had to disappear, i’m on the other side of the world in New Zealand and I had to go and prepare dinner. Oh, it’s Winter here too.
You are the first person I have heard of having a frog for a pet and you;ve had Humphrey since he was a tadpole, fantastic.
I have Googled what he may look like and their ‘hands’ look different from what I was expecting. Humphrey will be cat TV for Simba. Aren’t cats so wonderful when they curl up against you to sleep.

    Hi Megan!
Your Simba is a sleek beauty of a kit! Her pink bowtie is very chic! I’m owned by the kit in my avatar, my 5-yr old silver grey tabby, Dorian Gray Esq. That’s his formal name, efurryone calls him Dorry. Humphrey sounds like a nice pet froggy and as MS says “watching only” entertainment for Simba. The only tadpoles/frogs that I have ever seen are in the wild and this was years ago when I spent summer in country as a kid. I live way east of you in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Hi Megan, your Simba is adorable! I had a Simba who is now at the Rainbow Bridge, where he is with all of my cats (and there are MANY) who have gone before me. Yes, goat’s milk IS a godsend, it is a miracle worker! My daughter had an African clawed frog in an aquarium with fish… 😯 Well, you probably know THAT story…anyway he got so big she took him back to the pet store she bought him from. He was fascinating to watch, I will say!

Welcome Megan from a fellow Coloradoan in Denver. I’m glad we finally get to see what a gorgeous girl Miss Simba is growing into and what a purrfect meowmy she adopted. I’m the slave to –

    Miss Gaea – 8 yr. Brown Tabby/Manx
LilBit Guy – 2 yr. old Orange Tabby
Miss Moppet – 2 yr. old Gray on White long haired girl

I, too, have many kittahs playing in the meadow. I think of them often and know they are safe and healthy.

Hopefully, we’ll hear from you often.

Moonshadow, I love New Zealand! I was a downhill ski racer through high school and used to spend my summers on the South Island around Treblecone and Wanaka (spelling?) training! Such a beautiful country with such nice people!

Haha yes KZ clawdes and fish do not get along. He is in a ten gallon tank by himself and seems happy. I used to also have his sister Kermita (Kermit but a girl…my sixth grade students named her) but she passed this winter.

I have been beyond fortunate to not have had a pet cross that bridge other than a guinea pig when I was 5 and my other frog last year. My 14 year old dog at my parents is getting there though, so bless your hearts for taking care of all the furry animals you have.

Thank you for the warm welcomes everyone! I will have to post a pic of Simba watching Humphrey…they have a budding friendship through the glass. Don’t worry his lid is firmly on and in a ten gallon tank that she can’t get on top of! Simba has become my darling baby girl in addition to my boyfriends cat Abi (full name Abi Normal…same engineer was responsible for her naming) She is a beautiful Norwegian tree cat whom he fostered since birth after her siblings and mother did not survive. alas some day they will have to meet but for now Simba enjoys ruling the roost and thoroughly having me wrapped around her paw! You all have such cute kitties, how I spent the first 20+ years of my life thinking I did not like cats is beyond me, now I could not be without mine!

Welcome, Megan! It also took actually getting a cat for me to realize I was a cat person. Emily (in avatar photo) was a our first and we became such instant cat people that we had to have more. So now we have also added two boy cats, Eko and Leo, and a girl, Lucy. My cats also like viewing the critter behind the glass. At our house it is a ball python.

Spelling is perfect Megan. I’m from the North Island area where it doesn’t snow, white surf beaches and citrus, avocados and kiwifruit. I have yet to get to those southern areas of my country.
Abi Normal, what a great and unusual name. The engineer sound like quite a wit and his cat is very lucky to have him rear her after such a sad beginning.
