Dru and I are just back from the vets. It is 2am. She is shivering and not at all herself. After losing her sister so suddenly with kidney failure, I am v worried about her. The vet was lovely and thinks it is an infection. Dru has a temperature (hence the shivering) and was also constipated. So she got an injection of antibiotics and a Microlax enema. She did not find any of this dignified! Bless her that she managed a 30 mins journey home and made it to her litter tray.
I hate this. Dru will probably feel brighter in the morning and my common sense tells me that, but because of what happened to Darla, I don’t feel I will ever relax. I have always had cats and have never had these kind of things happen before. I just had all the routine vaccinations done, dealt with fleas and worms, and everyone was perfectly healthy. Bit of a low ebb. Vets again tomorrow (and work of course!) At least my girl is insured now, so cost is less of a worry. She is asleep and I am wide awake…..

Lolz. Not insured for illness for another 2 days….. Not that it matters, Dru will get what she needs. Just would have been helpful.

Oh so sorry Judith. Life can be so darn strange sometimes. And unfair. I’m hoping Dru pull through and it’s just something she will recover fully from and you can relax and have the life with her you and she are entitled to. Bless her little heart. Prayers and healing coming your way and please let us know how she is doing.

    Hi everyone,
I took Dru back to the vet this morning because she wouldn’t drink or eat and was still shaking. She is booked in now for blood tests because they want to check her kidneys before treating her further (because of Darla). Depending on the results they will work out what to do next. It was horrible leaving her- felt all too familiar. But I am trying to be positive. She absolutely does not have the same symptoms as Darla. She hasn’t been sick. She has a raised temperature and Darla didn’t. Hopefully she will do better.
Thank you for the positive thoughts and wishes.

    Judith and Dru,

My gang of fur balls are sending bunches of warm fuzzes to help (((Dru))) get better fast.

P.S. My Miss Moppet had to have an enema-she was not a happy camper.

    Hi everyone,
Dru is still at the vet. Her bloods were good, so they could give her anti-inflammatories to bring her temperature down. She will have more antibiotics too. The vet still doesn’t feel she needs a drip. I phoned earlier and Dru’s temp was down but she still wasn’t eating or drinking. The person I spoke to was being cautious still but I chose to hear the positives. A lower temperature has to be good. The nurse also said that Dru looked cosy which made me smile.
I was talking to some people at work and they said that cats can get infections if they are stressed. I wonder if losing Darla has been very stressful for Dru (it must have been surely) and/or if something else frightened or upset her- does anyone else have experience of this? I really want my girl back safe and well.
Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts.

Hi Judith – it was mostly stress that put Leela in the hospital for 5 days. For the most part it was a nasty URI. Her underlying condition came out when she couldn’t handle Comet.
If the next round of antibiotics do not show improvement fairly quickly perhaps they should try another type. It took 3 different ones before Leela responded – we almost lost her.

She’s home! Eating, drinking, pouncing at stuff. She still has a slightly raised temp apparently but she is on the mend. We have antibiotics and a follow up appt next week. But my girl is home. I am so happy!
