Can cats have allergies??? Diesel has been sneezing quite a bit lately since it has been raining for 3 days straight.. is it spring allergies or a cold, or just sneezing??

DM, we had a precious kitty years back named Willie. He had feline asthma and when it struck he would just wheeze and wheeze. It was horrible. To treat it they gave him steroids, but eventually the steroids caused diabetes and I had to give him insulin injections every day. He was just the most special kitty.

Sometimes Cricket and Fred go through sneeing fazes, more Cricket than Fred, and I wonder the same thing, but with dust, pollen, etc floating around I am sure they are just as succeptible to allergies just as we are.

Yes they can..and they can also get common colds just like you and me..if it continues, you should see the vet, but maybe Diesel just stuck his little head somewhere that he has got it full of dust or something..

Whyley had asthma too, but it never got serious enough for him to get injections.. ๐Ÿ™

I hope its just allergies, I bought some Febreeze allergen reducer spray so I sprayed that in all the areas that he likes to hang out in (like my bed…):) It is helping my allergies too!

Dieselsmom, cats can have allergies to airborne substances. They can also have asthma, and they can develop colds or pick up other infections.

If he doesn’t show improvement within a reasonable period of time (a week), or if he develops other symptoms such as lethargy, lack of appetite, sleeping more than usual, or discharge from eyes or nose, I’d get him in to the vet.

    Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I’ll keep an eye on him… he’s laying on my bed looking out the window and watching it rain right now ๐Ÿ™‚
