Okay. SO. Freyja started having poop troubles. I took her to the vet (I moved recently and ended up having to go to VCA which I’m not too happy with right now. The vets seem to be so incompetent) and they did a stool test (who has to send off to the lab for these? NEVER been to a MAJOR vet clinic that did that and didn’t have an inhouse ability to test) and everything came back negative but they still gave her meds for every type of parasite. She’s still having the runs. They look like cow patties. She was fine the first few days I had her and then she got that. They want me to bring ANOTHER stool sample for ANOTHER round of the SAME test (another $60!!!) if it doesn’t change! I’ve had her since last Saturday.

Now, I have no ability to separate her food from my other cats so I wasn’t able to transition slowly to new food. I’m pretty sure it’s that. She’s healthy otherwise. No lethargy, hyper as ever, eats and drinks good. What the heck should I do? How long will the adjustment take for her body to get used to the new food? Please help?

I’ve also got her some wet food in case of dehydration and some plain lowfat yogurt for the probiotics AND some pumpkin for fiber. I gave her a teaspoon of yogurt earlier. Forgot to add that. I’m just so annoyed with that vet. I was forced to go to another VCA clinic in the past and they gave my cats the WRONG medicine and it WASNT working and they just got sicker. Ended up with ANOTHER $200+ bill at my usual vet when I was finally able to get in. NEVER again with VCA. UGH!

    Hi Sammi,

Welcome to TDKland. I’m sorry for the bad vet. experience. How old is wee Freyja? Her age will make a difference on what to do nest.

Hi Sammi, so sorry about your bad experience at the vet, eeew. Disappointing to say the least.
First of all, whenever you change something in their diet, it shows up in their poop. So if she has different food, or she is taking meds of some type, then it could be the cause of the runny poop. She could also have a one celled parasite like coccidia, or giardia which can cause that, but the regular wormer for worms won’t get rid of that. It sounds like you have a handle on what to do for her. What kind of poop troubles was she having before you took her to the vet?
