Vicki Myron says: “In our society, people believe you have to do something to be recognized, by which we mean something “in your face,” and preferably caught on camera.” Do you agree? Is this a good or bad thing? What about Vicki’s belief that Dewey was special precisely because he wasn’t like that?

No, I don’t agree that you have to “do something”. Sometimes it is the quiet gesture that goes unrecognized that makes the greatest impact. Does anyone remember that old television show about the anonymous man who would give $1 million dollars to a stranger? He would do it not for recognition, but to make their live better.

Dewey loved. That’s what he did, and he did it without reservation. He certainly never knew how famous he had become, even when he became a celebrity on Japanese television! His job was to love and comfort and it seemed to be enough for Dewey.

…the biggest heros are those that act not for recognition or reward, but from a true and kind heart…. that’s how Dewey was……he would have been the same whether or not he became famous, he knew the most important thing that life is about…. LOVE

WWM, Now you know we are all far too young (you included) to remember Michael Anthony knocking on doors to tell the surprised occupants that representing a mysterious employer he had a check for 1 million dollars to present to them with a set of rules of conduct to spend!

MA’s employer may not have existed but there was the KC secret Santa who only came out when diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Doesn’t every cat think it’s famous?? lol Dewey was just being Dewey–loving people because he could.

Not sure about this one…if he had hid in the corner no one would have noticed him. He did do things that do in peoples faces…pushing to sit closer to people, invading the meetings, greeting her at the door every day, climbing the book cases…those were in your face kinds of things.

If you define “in your face” as being something quite dramatic done in the public eye in front of a camera, then no, I don’t think you have to do that to become recognized as a hero. The smallest/weakest/humbleist among us can make a huge difference to others (furry and human). There are so many unsung heroes. A lot of them post here on TDK! 🙂

There are a million unsung heros and a million grateful people. I have always felt and taught you do acts of kindness because it is a good thing to do and you never need to say a word.

Dewey was special just because he was Dewey……….
