    Hello everyone!

I am hand raising a kitten for the first time, since she was about 2-3 days old, and now she’s about 2 weeks old (there was a second kitten but sadly he passed about a week ago).

We haven’t decided on a name for her yet but she’s a sweet little calico kitty. Anyway, since we got her, she had always been quite a voracious eater, but for the past few days she has been eating less and less.

However, she isn’t behaving any differently that she was before! She doesn’t seem to be weak, she still holds her head up and tries to walk around, still loves to snuggle and purr. She’s also still urinating and defecating regularly, although she had diarrhea for a couple days and her stool has been a little more solid today. Her anus had also been a little red and sore, but that seems to be getting better too.

She seems to be fine other than the fact that she is eating less! She still eats some but not as much as she did before. Is there anything I can do to increase her appetite again?

Not eating is not a good sign, I would be worried and a trip to the vet would be a good idea. You can order online or get from a good pet store a nutritional supplement called Nutrigel for kittens, it is a paste you can smear a little on their mouths, it’s formulated for underweight and sick kittens. You could also try goats milk (canned in the baking aisle at Walmart) and a little goats’ milk yoghurt to see if she likes that any better. You could also try kitten glop — this link gives recipes and more links. http://dailykitten.com/chat/topic/links-for-kitten-glop/
But I would want the vet to rule out anything else first, especially since her sibling did not make it. The odds against these little ones are high, I’m afraid.

It’s possible that she has worms which may upset her tummy. Your wee kit should go to the vet.
