The Tolkien Reading Society chose March 25th to celebrate Tolkien because it’s the Downfall of Sauron. From “Lord of the Rings, Middle-Earth,” “Ancrene Wisse” (An edition of the Rule for a female medieval religious order)” to “The Fall of Arthur” J. R. R. Tolkien is indeed the father of Modern fantasy literature. For those who haven’t read or seen Tolkien’s work…what are you waiting for??

The weekend has begun for our Kiwi friends and starts for us now. What’s to be done? Something always finds us!

    Cya and have a happy~

    Crossover pic –

I hadn’t read any Tolkien until the movies were being made and then I read The Hobbit and the three Lord of the Rings books and The Silmarillion. I have totally enjoyed the LOTR movies, just seeing his amazingly descriptive and creative writing on the screen was fantastic and then seeing familiar scenery from my own country was great too especially Hobbiton as it’s a short drive from here and we used to live with a few kilometers of where it was created.

Good morning! I’ve peeked in a couple of times this week and have wanted to say hi…so now is the time…Hi!

Sorry I missed your birthday, Joan! I hope it was happy and relaxing and that the kitties treated you well.

I’ve been having fun continuing to settle in to our new house. We like it more and more as we settle in. It had a lot of deferred maintenance so it might take a while to get certain things in shape, but we won’t let that spoil our fun. I’m going to buy a cordless leaf blower today because the main landscaping challenge here is keeping up with dropped leaves….yard is low maintenance besides that one big task…but at least that isn’t heavy year round. I think the spring drop is nearly done.

Did I mention that around the time I got the jadeite dishes, I got interested in collecting vintage diner cups and saucers? I only collected five while we were renting, because I didn’t know what my new kitchen would be like and how many I could display. So, turns out I have a huge wall in the breakfast nook, just begging me to have fun with it. Son is dying to use my iPad now (we are computerless at the moment) but I want to come back later and share what I’m planning for that wall.

    Happy Saturday!

Good Caturday morning! I like that hobbit cat spot, looks really cool.
Hi ECB! As long as those maintenance issues aren’t really cramping your style, things will work out eventually. A cordless blower sounds like a really good idea. We have a blower but both of us tend to use rakes, though the rocky areas clear out better with the blower.
It’s a lazy morning so far, and I just saw that Dracula is on tonight, yay!
We’re expecting rain here later, but temps are on the rise. Purrhaps the wood burner will get a break today.

Good Caturday morning! Our woodburner has has a 2 day break so far, yesterday being almost 70 and today the same. I love leaf blowers–they clean so much better than brooms and get the nooks and crannies. Also are great in the winter for blowing soft fluffy snow that hasn’t yet been walked on!!

ECB, I can’t wait to see pics of the wall in the breakfast nook–you really have me interested!

Tried to get on yesterday morning, but for some reason, the page wouldn’t load and I lost my window of opportunity with Avery being here.

PG, thanks for asking about my PT the other day. I’m actually finished with it. Had the in home, and then went to see the surgeon and he told me I really didn’t need to go to the outpatient PT. I am walking without any aids, and it seems that each week I am stronger and have more range of motion. I am still on my hip precautions of not crossing legs, no bending more than 90 degrees, etc. but that doesn’t hinder me much. I don’t like to cross my legs and I have my grabber tool and Avery to get things on the floor that are flat and hard to pick up. If I can’t do it I leave it as I don’t want to dislocate my new hip– 😮

Mr. KZ is shooting in a tournament, so I have the day to putter and run sweeper, dust, and mop floors. It’s really not too bad in here, but just cat hair! This seems to be the time of year when they are losing hair like it’s their job!

I’m so glad to hear how well you are doing with your new hip, KZ. I could relate, too, the other day when I peeked in here briefly and saw you were heading out to lunch with Avery…new hair being a good reason. When the boys were younger I used to look for any reason to go have lunch…so nice to get out of the house sometimes. We don’t as much now that I can get out without them.

So, my breakfast nook. I debated how to display diner cups and saucers…restsurant style stainless steel shelves, wooden shelves, wooden boxes made for cup and saucer display, or wrought iron racks. Decided to go with these from Amazon…

    https://www.amazon.com/Rack-Vertical-Display-Teacup-Black/dp/B0036M3C04/ref=pd_sim_201_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0036M3C04&pd_rd_r=PKYK07XXE0864FAMNAWW&pd_rd_w=h2mg6&pd_rd_wg=BGsz7&psc=1&refRID=PKYK07XXE0864FAMNAWW

They’re wrought iron racks if you don’t want to click on the link. I liked the look of some of the other options better…but liked the ease of hanging and securing the dishes that the racks offer.

So, not wanting to grow my collection past 12 cups, I needed to fill in more wall space. Both eBay and Amazon sell vintage style diner-ish signs for very reasonable prices…so I’ve made a “mock-up” with newsprint packing paper to plan out the wall, using the dimensions given online for each product to plan where I’d put it before ordering it. The middle things with circles are the cup and saucer racks….

So that’s the “before”. I’ll have to post the “after” when it’s done. I love diners and breakfast and vintage dishes….so I’m having fun. Hubby and I usually decorate together, but he’s letting me have my fun though he thinks it’s a bit busy. I said that’s what I was going for. :).

Does it feel great to finally settle in, ECB? Even though you have lots ahead of you, it’s your home! Thanks for explaining the pictures because I thought your kids did that. 😳

Your rehab sounds like you’re moving up. By the end of the year, you’ll be run a marathon.

ECB, sounds like the move went well. For sure it takes a bit of time to settle in. Unless you have my predeliction for setting everything up on the first night. Even so over the yrs I keep switching things up via street finds, etc. Plus I’m only dealing with like 800 sq ft. 😉

    Racks are very nice!

KZ great that you’re moving ever faster – but still don’t overdo it.

Speaking of home, noticing that water pressure in bathtub is way slow/low. Just emailed landlord to ask re calling my fix-it guy for input as tinkering around with faucet is not in my plans.:-o I know, srs first-world prob. *Sigh*

Not much into Tolkein – but very much into theme pics of the kits! 🙂

PG, do you like “Ripper Street?” I watched it some time ago and really enjoyed it.

ECB, I love the wrought iron! Can’t wait to see the wall with the racks/dishes and cups hanging. And yes, I needed to get out and Avery loves to go too–it’s been so long since I’ve been able to go and enjoy myself.

KJ, I know about overdoing it–did that one day last week. It didn’t hurt my hip as it seems to be bionic, but my I haven’t been on my feet that long because of my hip in the last few years. I really felt it come evening…I guess I have to do this exercise by increasing gradually….. 😛

Yes, I like Ripper Street. I tried watching it about year ago but didn’t get into it. Then I started again a couple of months ago and now, I’m binge watching. They released season 4 and will be filming season 5.
