I had read a blog about dogs and swimming ( http://www.soldapools.com/swimming/5-health-benefits-of-swimming-for-your-dog/ ). I know that taking cats to swim is not possible but do your cats swim? I have heard that cats can swim for a small distance, have your cat actually done that? If yes, then share those interesting stories.

These are the 10 breeds known to like or love water: Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest Cat, Abyssinian, Manx, Japanese Bobtail, Bengal, American Bobtail, Savannah, Turkish Angora, Turkish Van (aka Swimming Cat).

However, most other cats do not like water and most often this is what you see:

No I haven’t tried putting my cats in water to see if they will swim. I have given one of cats baths because she got so dirty in the yard.

When we were first married, we had a big all black cat (mother was Siamese), my Big Buc, who swam. He was more like a dog, and would follow us anywhere, didn’t need a leash …. we took him everywhere. One time we took him on a boat ride to picnic island (just off our Gulf coast), and we were walking around the little island and throwing a frizbee …. Buc would run from me to Mr. AV as the frizbee was thrown …. well my aim isn’t the best, so I miss threw it in the edge of the ocean, and Mr. AV ran in to get it …. Buc followed him right in the water, and even got a wave wash over him …. didn’t even phase him! …. another time, he was chasing another cat out of our back yard and cut a corner too close and fell in the pool …. he just swam over to the steps and climbed out …. again, didn’t phase him …. he was a cool cat!

Hmm… that’s the usual reaction I get from kitty too. Glad to know that it’s quite normal. 😀
