Spidey, my one year old orange tabby, has redness around his lips…looks like a rash (tiny red dots). They’re visible because he has light pink skin and it looks darker in contrast to it. He’s playful, eating, doesn’t eat out of a plastic bowl…he seems fine I’m just worried that it might be getting worse.

Any help will be appreciated, thank you!

Feline acne tends to be little black spots, that can progress to red bumps/pustules if itchy or inflamed but unless that’s what you think the red dots are, it doesn’t sound like kitty acne to me. Could be an allergic reaction, another type of infection or dermatitis. The best thing is to take him to the vet. Or, if it looks like any of the conditions on this slideshow, again, take him to the vet. Best of luck!

Yup, feline acne! I had a black and white cat who had it, plus Daughter’s black and white cat had it, also….I do think it is more common (?) in cats with white chins, at least that is what I have been told. But, I see your kitt is an orangie! So much for that theory, lol. Best of luck to you!

Your vet should be able to give you an antibiotic cream to help. Best of luck!

Thank you! I’m pretty sure it’s feline acne… I read somewhere that cleaning it with a hydrogen peroxide solution or using Epsom salt water to clean the area will help clear it up. Anybody tried this?

Any suggestions as to what I can do? I can’t really afford a vet bill right now so I’m looking for any solution other than going to the vet…but if I have to, I will take Spidey.

A mild hydrogen peroxide solution won’t hurt but don’t do it too often. Do wipe his chin off 3 or 4 times a day with just warm water and a clean towel (paper towels work fine). You can actually hold the warm moist towel against his chin for 30-60 seconds. Make sure his food and water bowls are metal or ceramic and washed every day.

Sneakers has a chronic acne problem. Before we would deal with it when it flared up and relax when it cleared up. It flared up every 5-6 weeks. We’ve eventually figured out that cleaning his chin on a daily basis, regardless of whether it was inflamed, prevented the majority of the flare ups. Since he gets a pill every day, it’s easy enough to wipe his chin off at the same time.

It’s all cleared up now, but I’ll keep cleaning with a warm, damp tissue! Thank you everyone for your advice 🙂

my older cat had that alot, and the gross thing is, when we would brush him he used to want us to leave the brush down so he can brush his chin… a few times he popped the acne, it sounded soo gross and a little puss would come out but he would be fine after he cleaned up..

my cat doesnt have acne….. yet… Im hoping he wont.
