Does ANYONE have any ideas about how to keep a cat from scratching at closed doors? Opening the doors is not an option so please don’t suggest that. Declawing is not an option either. I need some ideas because Ari is going to dig his way to china otherwise. Unfortunately we are trying to sell our home that we have had newly renovated. I have had to get new carpet put in just today because of his digging holes at door frames when doors are shut. I have to shut bathroom doors because I am OCD and cannot have bathroom doors open. What can I say, Im a germ phobe. But my husband and I don’t know what to do. We love Ari so much but he’s so destructive around the house. With the new carpet, we just can’t have this behavior. Thought?

I am sure others will have better advice then I do but have you tried putting double sided tape down in front of the door? They sell special kitty sticky strips but I think plain double sided tape would do the same thing.

No I haven’t tried that yet but that sounds like a good one to try for sure! I have tried scratching posts and devices but Mr. Ari is a determined little booger and my husband trips over the scratching posts. But the tape thing I might try tonight.

They hate the sticky I know I have strips on some of my furniture because Hurley is doing his insane phase right now. I do hope it helps a little bit

I will pick some up at petland. Hopefully they have that. I have a petsmart near me and a walmart so I may hit pay dirt at one of those places. If this doesn’t work … sigh…

You can also try some of the no-skid plastic with the pointy grip laying with the grips up…just remember not to step on it. It won’t hurt the kitties paws but will make it less interesting…(vet tech suggested this one to me and it worked…)

That sounds like a great idea too! My husband is worried about double sided tape or kitty tape leaving a residue on our new carpet. I was thinking about welcome mats but my husband thinks he may trip on those too. Maybe he should stop being so clumsy lol. But I don’t think he could trip on the no-skid plastic.

I’ve herd that the smell of citrus works to keep cats away from certain places.

I’ve had success with the plastic. Sounds like your husband needs training too! The tape, called “Sticky Paws” (I got it in PetSmart) does not leave a residue–I used it on my recliners to keep Patches from clawing them.

SM, can I use this tape on my curtains?
