I have been thinking about a kitten these past few days but now im not too sure. Should I get a kitten or a cat, but not an old cat, maybe one that has just grown up from a kitten. I need some opinions please.

Kittens are a lot of fun, but if I was looking for another cat, I think I would try to find a rescue cat that maybe was being overlooked by those looking for kitties. Or one that had lost its person and had to be rehomed. For some reason, older cats like those have been on my mind lately. I see how happy and content my Molly is (raised from a kitten) and worry about unwanted cats who have no home as adults. But that’s just me…. By the way, love your name. I too, am a dragonlover, books etc, even a tattoo, why did you choose that name? Just curious!

It all depends on what you are prepared for. When I decided to adopt Mia, I had forgotten what it was like to have a kitten. I can honestly say that if I could do it over, I wouldn’t have adopted a 12 week old kitten but would have gone for the cat that was at 16-18 months but was still a female since Sylvester is a male. My vet says it was better to adopt a kitten as it helps with the territory issues but I think it all depends on the cat in your household and how it deals with other cats. If you don’t want to go through the kitten crazies then a cat is a better idea. I now get to deal with a kitten at almost 6 months who to get my attention will jump up on a bookcase or my computer hutch which is a no no.

Definitely adopt a cat if you can. Everyone wants a kitten…in a year you have a cat anyway. 😉

An adult cat has grown into his/her personality and you can be more sure of what you are getting. The cat will always be grateful too!

I got Spice as a 7 week old. Velvet, at 5 years old, was not amused. If I had to do it over again, I would have gotten 2 kittens, so they would amuse each other and not bother Velvet…

I got my Chloe when she was 2 years old. Cats are harder to place.. and as mentioned above, it’s only a kitten for a short period of time. What I liked about getting an adult, besides the personality, was I already knew exactly how big she was going to be. I wanted a smaller cat. 🙂 It’s all up to you and what you want for yourself. Keep us posted !

We have a large contigent of cat/kitten rescuers here on this forum. I am a foster parent to one remaining kitten from a litter of ten. Perhaps if you tell us where you are, we can all help each other.

I say get a cat, they have more trouble finding a home and you don’t have to deal with the kitten attacking you all the time.

If you aren’t near one of our members who is forstering cats and kittens who need homes, then go to the shelter and see who you fall in love with. Keep an open heart and hold several. Take home the one that reacts to you like you are family. When I went to Superpets to get catfood on March 17, 2002 I had no intention of getting an adult cat. I was open to getting a kitten to be companion to 7 month old Gracie. There was an adoption fair going on and they had a year-old bluepoint siamese mix. I couldn’t resist holding her for just a second. When I picked her up, she sighed, relaxed in my arms and started purring loudly. Yep you guessed it. She came home with me and is now my couch buddy, Emma. She likes nothing more than to sit next to me and get petted and brushed. I still ended up with a kitten a few weeks later, but that is a story for another day.

A kitten is a handful! They run, hop, jump, leap and ambush you whenever they can. They are very unpredictable and will alter your lifestyle completely! That said, I have a kitten and would not have it any other way! 🙂

Hi Dragonlover22, I’m assuming you’ve read the Pern books! Have you read any of the new ones by Todd McAffrey? How about Naomi Novik’s books about Temeraire? They really are my favorite fantasy creature, would love to “bond” with one! I think that cat people are dragon people at heart. A close second are the books by Mercedes Lackey. What are some of the books you’ve read? I love to compare impressions of books. KittenWhisperer is another TDK person who likes those books too.
