Did the guy even try to talk to his neighbors or did he just take this upon himself? I’d hate it if my babies were “cat-napped”.

Sorry Chuck but Jerk doesn’t even begin to cover it. These people should get the police and lawers involve!

You are all right, uncalled for abuse. I do agree that the cats should be kept indoors or in a safe enclosure outside, but the person who did this was very heartless. I think the UK has more problems with pet owners letting their pets roam freely then we here in the USA. Pets are to be kept in safe environments, and in situations where they can’t invade gardens or kill song birds. There are so many wonderful alternatives for simple or elaborate outdoor enclosures that would keep a cat happy and safe from all hazards.

Paul James did a whole segment on keeping cats out of the garden recently. One lady had her whole garden and underside of her porch smelling of cat. So they deodorized the area and placed chicken wire under the mulch and the cats just kept on walking. It’s so easy and so cheap and so much friendlier. Elene, you are absolutely right.

But didn’t we already have a discussion about how Brits had a more lax attitude about the freedom of their furs?

So sad, I have lots of birds outside in the back and front yards. So my little horde do their stalking via windows, they even sneak up on the windows so as to not scare the birds away until they want to jump at the window scaring ’em. Safer for both sides, and they still get their stalking done for the day.

When we applied to the Cats Protection League to home Pickle and Button, we were subject to a very thorough (and rightly so) home visit, to make sure we were offering suitable accommodation. Had we, for example, lived right on a very busy road, we would only have been allowed to consider a house cat.

Aside from advice on micro-chipping (essential in my opinion0, the only issue they strongly condoned was keeping them in overnight – when most accidents involving cats happen. This we have duly done, they don’t like it, but tough!

But in the same vein, we wouldn’t have considered trying to keep two very lively young cats indoors during the day – it’s in their nature to be outside, and roam and play (and yes, hunt). They have a cat flap, so can come and go as they please, and be inside in the dry and warm when they want to be.

There are plenty of measures other people can adopt to prevent cats from wandering into and “using” their gardens, many of which are actively promoted by the UK’s various animal charities.

This miserable excuse for a human being is just downright spiteful, and his actions nothing short of pure evil. I hope the police and the RSPCA are able to locate him and punish him accordingly. I also hope the owners are reunited with their beloved pets.
