I have 5 healthy 4 week old kittens three of which don’t seem to be interested in the kitten food yet. The problem is that now they are bigger the mother won’t feed them any more she hisses at them and scratches them when when they approach her for food. The mother cat is only six months old I think the kittens hurt her now when they feed off her. What is the best way I can introduce food to the other kittens because I don’t want them to starve. Also should I try to give them milk any advice would be appreciated thanks 😀

Thomas, you will have to supplement them with kitten milk replacer (KMR) or better yet goat’s milk found in the baking aisle at Walmart in cans (it’s condensed so you will add water 1 to 1) or the fresh milk cooler. Goat’s milk is great for kittens because it adds l-Lysine which is good for them and good bacteria to their gut which they will also need. The powdered KMR tends to constipate, the liquid tends to give diarrhea, in my experience. I have raised a kitten solely on goat’s milk and it’s MUCH cheaper than KMR. Kittens usually aren’t weaned until around 8 weeks. They can be introduced to wet food now though and they will take less and less milk. Keep us posted on their progress! The mom cat is young and she is inexperienced herself, barely more than a kitten. If you weren’t helping her, her kittens probably wouldn’t survive.
