This one is just out of curiosity because I couldn’t find anything on it.

I have a cat who is about 6 or 7 years old and clearly loves me. She’s a shy cat to most people including my family, but with me she’s always in my bedroom, plops down right next to me, and will pet my arm if I don’t give her attention immediately, but she turns away whenever I turn my head to her.

If I lean my head in more than a two foot distance, she’ll eventually run away, but otherwise has no issue.

If anyone knows why this is I’d like to hear. Thanks.

Maybe since the head is the focal point of a human, and more specifically, the eyes, she might feel like you are getting into “her space”. She being the cat would have no problem getting into your space, lol.

Have you been her only owner? If you have, I think it’s as Joan said. The eyes to a cat are the focal point to a face. Keep your eyes averted until she is comfortable, then give a slow eye blink. If it’s the head turning towards her, she must be extremely shy. If you are NOT her first owner, I would say that she may have been abused/frightened by someone who (when turning their head to face her) screamed at her or hit her.
