Hello dailykitteners, I’m back again with more cluelessness about my cats behavior.
As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I am having Lola spayed in January. The place I’m taking her too has a very long waiting list. So until then I am forced to deal with her mood swings. about 5 days ago she went into heat, and was all lovey dovey and cuddly etc. She just went out of heat today, and she is a bat out of hell. She’s never been this aggressive before. She wont just randomly attack anybody but she was fine all day today until my boyfriend came home, she was sitting on a chair by the door waiting for him to come home, like usual. When he came in he bent down to kiss her and she hissed and attacked his face. He is fine, he just has a minor scratch on his lip.
And then later today I was holding her and carrying her into the bedroom, (we have to lock her in our room at night, because she gets into lots of trouble, we’ve done this since she was a kitten) and as I was carrying her out of nowhere she growled and attacked my hand and when i said “NO, BAD” she turned around to attack my face.
I put her down in the bedroom and she immediately started playing with her toys like nothing happened. I’m wondering if maybe this has something to do with her being in heat.
Like I said, she’s never been like this before. She’s also been peeing and pooping where ever she pleases and nothing I do will stop her. I keep her litter box as clean as possible, and its not too small for her, its full size and she’s tiny for her age.
I’ve tried different litters, i’ve tried washing everything she goes to the bathroom on and nothing will give. Sometimes she will use the box and I encourage the good behavior.
I’m wondering if this also has to do with her not being fixed.
I’m praying that when she gets fixed that all of this will stop.
I’m afraid that my boyfriend’s parents will want us to find her a new home if this persists. 🙁

    Hi Cheyanne,
Most of the behavior you are describing is because she is an unspayed female cat. She can be aggressive, very vocal, restless, and spraying urine to mark her territory. Males are not the only ones who spray, females do it too. It does concern me though about the urinating outside of the box because it could be she could have a UTI and it needs to be checked out by a vet. It would be tragic to have to rehome a cat that just needs to be spayed–some female kittens come into heat at only 4 months old.

Lola has been peeing and pooping outside of her litter box since she was really young but she stopped until she started going into heat. I will do everything I can to make sure no body tries to make me find her a home. If anything I would just move out and take her with me. As for spraying I don’t think she’s done that yet, I’ve never seen her spray and I know that cat spray has a much stronger Oder. I really hope she stops being and pooping everywhere after she’s spayed.

Oh dear … Yes I agree with KZ all I this behavior can be put down to not being spayed. So it’s a good thing she’s booked in and these bad behaviors should reduce gradually after she is spayed..

I’m sorry you and your Bf for the brunt of her anger.. I’ve dealt with this myself many times .. But she can’t help herself really there are so many chemicals running through her system now much like a hormonal pregnant mother..

And I’m sorry to say the “spray” pee doesn’t always smell stronger so she could still be spraying and you might not realize. Most spraying is done in the night time too. Male pee will always smell stronger than females though.. A black light will determine if she is spraying if it becomes an issue..

As for the litter box if it had been a normal behavior for her to occasional pee/poop outside box at some stage and you can’t see blood in her stool or she isn’t straining while peeing then I’d but it down to her being in heat pee isn’t the only thing that cats Will mark their territory with unfortunately .. If this behavior doesn’t reduce after the spaying then I’d consult the vet. And just get vet to check her for any UTI while she’s in being spayed to put your mind at ease

She had a problem a while back with having bloody stools, but our vet assured us it was just something that she ate.
She hasn’t had any bloody stool since then, or any diarrea.
I completely understand what she must be going through, and I’m just relieved to know that this can hopefully go away after she is spayed.
It is causing a lot of stress and tension between my boyfriend and I. Especially because she peed on my boyfriend’s parent’s pool table felt and they’re going to freak when they find out. Having her spayed really isn’t in our budget especially if it doesn’t solve these problems but it’s worth a shot.
