i have two kittens, they are both a week or less old…ive had them for abut three days now, yesterday and the day before i was able to get them to poop…and so far today to my knowledge (my boyfriend has been caring for them while i was at work) they have not pooped, the last time they both have pooped was last night.

i have heard that they normally wont poop everyday..but their bellies are bulging…i dont know if they are just getting bigger or if i have something to worry about?

they are both peeing alot when i stimulate them, and its not as yellow as it was when i first started to care for them…

another question, how will i know if i am over feeding them, i try to feed them every 2-3 hours, sometimes a little longer depending upon my boyfriends and mine work schedule (they have not gone over four hours without feeding, and its normally only two hours) when they eat i usually just feed them till they start forming bubbles or they refuse to hold the nipple in their mouth anymore…

im trying really hard to keep these orphans alive, but obvisouly this is my first experience doing so..

any imput will be greatly appreciated

    thank you <3

by the way, i am feeding them KRM powdered formula, for the first two days they had the liquid formula that the vet gave to me when i first had them checked out.

If they are peeing and pooping normally, I wouldn’t worry about their bellies. It is possible they have worms, but they can live with them for the next 4-5 weeks while their bodies develop. Do not de-worm before 5 weeks! No matter what the vet says, a lot of them actually don’t have a lot of experience with newborns. So as long as their poop and pee is normal and their appetite is healthy, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about! (:

Poop will usually come every other or every 2-3 days. If it takes more than 2 or 3 days to get them to poop, a vet visit is a good idea. Try diluting their formula an extra 2 parts, so 4:1 water to powder, and feed them less more often. It is actually a good idea to keep their formula diluted an extra part or 2 while their little bodies develop (: You can also mix 2mL of canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) in their formula. That should give them some good fiber (:

thanks for the advice, i had to actually take them to the vet on tuesday (i had an appointment for my ferret so they told me just to bring on the kitties as well)

they gave my little man an enema and he pooped a little, but they said it was really hard…and the little girl they did a fecal exam on because she was bleeding when i pooped her, which was negative thank goodness, it was just the paper towels i had to resort to when i ran outta cotton balls the day before.

since then they went a few days without going, so i took them in again and they got my little man to poop some more, but couldnt get the little girl to go.

the next day they both went :] (which was yesterday)

and today my little girl went again, and i am thrilled to say i have never seen a more solid poop in my life! lol

i have been diluting their formula to two sccops formula and 6 scoops water

which gives me 1 1/2 bottles (perfect for duel feeding when somebodys here to help feed them)

my only question is over feeding? they seem to want to be eating ALOT more than in the begining and when i pull the bottle away they scream or hold onto it with their mouths…i dont wanna over feed but i dont wanna leave them hungry

Sorry for getting back so late, you can feed them less more often if you are concerned about overfeeding. It will also help with hard stool and hydration (: Hope they are still doing well!
