Here in Houston we are just glad that it isn’t 90 anymore! We are relishing in the time we can finally turn off our air conditioners in our house and cars. Of course, that means the building where I work is always freezing!

Isn’t it interesting to see how different all our worlds look right now? From cooling down in Northern California, to heat and humidity in Texas, to the approaching spring in NZ, to the colorful autumn of the mountains, and the snow in Finland and Scotland?

I thought about this the other day…how we post what we feel, but so rarely what we see. Guess I’m a visual person!

    Don’t stop….let’s hear from some others…

How’s the weather in your neck of the woods?

Liz I’m in Houston, it’s still too hot for me!!! My air conditioner is still running (it runs all year). 🙂

Over here (in the Southwest) it is cool in the mornings, you need a light jacket. By 10:00 AM it’s up to the mid 70’s, and by 4:00 PM it’s in the low 80’s. (Monday morning it was down to 38, nice and cool.) Very mild, very beautiful.

Hmmm its 6:19 MST, here in Tucson, AZ its about 55 degrees outside with anticipation or expectation of being 90-95 degrees today, with the temps going to 85 deg this weekend. I too run my a/c yearround both in the house and car, if I get chilly at night (only home 2 nights a week, working midshift all the time) I just put on sweats or something non-constricting. I do miss the different seasons, ok the seasons as Southern California would have (where I grew up) lol. And good morning one and all, hope that this Friday is good for all of you >^..^<

Here in Michigan the weather has finally swung to where it should be. Last weekend the tempurature was close to 90 degrees; today we will only be in the low 50’s. We have not had any snow yet, but on the radio this morning they were saying that a year ago we had 2″ of snow on this date, and just south of here they got 8″! We had an unusually hot and dry summer this year.

The fall colors are just coming into peak now. Where I live there are mostly maple and oak trees – the maples always put on the best show. I love to walk in the woods with the leaves crunching underfoot, and the smell of people’s wood-burning fires in the air. I also sleep much better when the air is colder. The only downside is poor Nora – she was yelling at me this morning to open the windows for her, but it was in the lower 40’s so it just wasn’t going to happen. She is quite upset.

    *sighs*

I miss the seasons so badly. Here it’s either hot or cold, and we don’t get any cold weather until January. By April it’s already hot again. Whine Whine Whine blah blah blah boo hoo hoo

N&N’s mom…what a beautiful description…I could visualize everything….we have Japanese maples here in the Blue Ridge — also show stoppers! And yes, I too love the crunch underfoot of the leaves…and of the icy snow which comes later.

Janet — I feel the same way about snow. The silence of it is ethereal. And because things shut down here when it’s snowing, the world becomes soft, still and silent except for the occasional dog barking in the far distance. I’m always torn between wanting to be out in the snow, or curled up inside under an afghan with a cup of coffee and a good book………I catered a lunch into your friend Cheryl’s office in Ellijay last year on a cold winter day. When I left Blairsville to make the 45 minute drive, it was overcast. When I came out of Cheryl’s medical office, it was snowing so hard, only one lane was kept open in each direction along 515, because the road crews couldn’t scrape it fast enough. I worried whether I’d get back and drove at a snail’s pace, but I made it.

Here in the Bluegrass State it is GLORIOUS!!!!! Overnight lows in the mid 40’s, highs in the upper 60’s and beautiful blue skies. In other words PERFECT football weather! It will be great going to the game this weekend and needing to wear a sweater, wanting hot chocolate (maybe with a nip of bourbon) and wrapping up in a stadium blanket. This weekend Hubby is taking me to historic Bardstown Kentucky for a little bit of a romantic getaway. I am not sure where we are staying (its a surprise) but there is a big art fair going on there this weekend and we will drive to Lexington for the game on Saturday afternoon. Jo, picture a neat small town with historic buildings lining the town square, Maple trees just starting to turn from green showing a hint of the glory to come. Picture bright blue skies with fluffy white clouds. Picture couples hand in hand and families with their children walking among artist’s booths and people selling their handmade preserves. Imaging the smell of hot apple cider with cinnamon and the feel of it going down and warming you from the inside out. That will be me on Sunday!

i was supposed to go on a field trip for work today, but due to the weather and my bad back/leg/feet, I cancelled it. That is ok, only I was going, and my boss has said in the last 5 years since I’ve had the back problem that I will never be penalized for not going out when i feel bad. And I think it’s been only the 2nd time i’ve had to cancel in 5 years.

I’m here in the office for the day, I’ve got plenty of computer work to do today, setting up my second project. These projects (I’m a civil engineer like Pipa’s mom) will be due Sept and Nov 2008, and I am responsible for just a small part, not the entire project.

I can picture every aspect of your description, ppearson! I can even smell the hot apple cider!

My friend from Florida is visiting, and we have four things planned for the weekend…. the Fall Arts Festival at the fairgrounds, the Sorghum Festival Parade — if you’ve never seen a small town parade, you’ve never experienced the corniest event on earth — simply heartwarming! Then the Sorghum Festival itself at the old fort in Blairsville, and the Misty Mountain Quilter’s show at the Technical College – my favorite show of the year!

I’m a little jealous of your hubby planning such a wonderful romantic getaway — and the football games — don’t you love being wrapped up in a blankie at a footbal game?

Hot apple cider….I’m heading for the kitchen….

Having no cider at work, I opted for hot chocolate. I snitched some of the half and half from the coffee bar to make it that much better.

I was just talking to my dad and he seems to remember I was my happiest when we lived in Alaska. I don’t remember a whole lot about it because I was pretty young when we lived there, but I DO remember I liked it. I’d move north if I could, but I doubt my job would transfer me there because they’d have to give me a raise. >:

HM, I’m not sure what your job is. If it has anything to do with manufacturing, don’t head for Michigan! However, our service industry (especially medical) is really booming in the West Michigan area. It is kind of funny to hear you saying you would like to move north – many Michiganders are heading the OTHER direction.

I’m in banking, but I was in the medical field for awhile as an EMT. My boss is from Michigan and he LOVES the weather here. I have a sister who grew up in Detroit and she loves the weather here too.

Seems like Americans think the grass is always greener somewhere else….I’ll probably be here in Blairsville forever.

For the Michiganders heading south, it has more to do with jobs than the weather. Unfortunately we have the highest unemployment rate in the US right now, mainly in the manufacturing sector. A lot of people don’t want to move, but they feel like they have no choice. It is sad, I hate to see our beautiful state having such troubles.

I hate hearing that about Michigan, or anywhere for that matter. I remember driving through the South and seeing small dried-up towns, and a lifestyle that was becoming a thing of the past. Now that people can work from home and computers, small towns across the country are experiencing a revival.
