I’ve been using The Breeze System which is great … until you have a kitty with diarrhea, which is what I’m dealing with right now. Looking for the best odor control, preferably with minimal tracking. (Also, do I need a covered litter box?)

    Warm welcome to TDK Ashley.
Many TDKr’s with just as many opinions & litter box style/systems.
Here is a link found on yahoo that my help:

I use clumping, natural no scent…low dust. Some of the perfumes bother my kits & me! (Scoop my own out of high sided/front step-in boxes…have 3/one for each kit.)
A new brand/w feather on label was recently mentioned in article that caused cats breathing problems/health issues. It hasn’t been recalled/yet.
I would google brand you are considering for any pending issues.

Trying to tell someone which litter to use is well, impossible. They make so many kinds of litter because people’s preferences are different and so are people’s noses. I tried switching to the new lightweight litter because the other is sooooo heavy, but it IMO was awful! This is my experience only and some may swear by it, but I couldn’t quit sneezing, it tracks EVERYWHERE, and the litterboxes smelled terrible! I did this thinking I would be saving money and making my life easier, NOT! I had to dump and scrub all the boxes, buy new litter and fill them. My house doesn’t smell anymore, I quit sneezing, and the cats are happier. I use SCOOP AWAY. I’m sure others will have their own preferences, hopefully they will weigh in!

Agree with kittyzee. If you read litter reviews you quickly see…what works well for one cat or cat family, might not work for another.

I’ll link what we use. I like that it is scent free and dust free. And scooping twice a day we have no odor…but it isnt absolutely perfect with the odor control. Fresh step fragrance free, clumping was perfect with the odor control, but was dusty. A trade off I guess. Anyways here’s what we use, available at petsmart or petco….

I personally use Pura clumping moonlight lavender scented litter .. And I find it amazing! But like everyone says what works for me doesn’t work for others.. The golden rule with litter that’s universal is never use Clumping cat litter in a young kittens litter tray.. Only ever use non-clumping incase they ever ingest some.. ( little kittens will eat anything)

We use Blue Buffalo walnut shell litter. The only odors we smell is the poop when a cat has just gone, but after a few minutes the smell subsides and you can only smell it if you stick your face directly over the box. It clumps nice and tight and doesn’t stick to the bottom of the box to make those god awful giant, hard-to-pick up clumps. Its a bit pricey, but totally worth it. It is also virtually dust free. One of my cats doesn’t track it at all, the other is just messy and manages to track even his food all over the place. haha.

I am sold on Swheat Scoop. It’s a natural wheat based clumping litter, no dust and odor free. It’s a bit pricey, but since it clumps so well, a little goes a long way.

I actually did an experiment about this in the 8th grade using ammonia, and if I remember correctly, Fresh Step Crystal was the best tailed by Odor lockers. Or the other way around but I’m confident it was Fresh Step Crystal.
