I know what you mean Catwoman. I thought I was gone for the day…but my boys wanted to come home for lunch…but I am only here for another short time and then I will be gone until about 8:30 my time…I am going to be on pins and needles until I can get back home. I have not stopped praying since I got up this morning…

I know we are all on pins and needles, but if the vet is doing a really good job then we probably won’t hear anything for awhile. I can remember some of those “emergency visits” that ended up lasting a few hours.

We are back! I am very impressed with the new vet. He came down with a diagnosis, FLUTD. We spent quite some time with him, something my vet would never have done. While checking Lucy Belle, he detailed to me everything that he’s doing and telling me what is normal and otherwise. Such a devoted vet and he took such care of my Lucy Belle. Ok, more details below:-

He acknowledge the fact that her condition is a result of her spay surgery. He mentioned that most vet attributes certain unexplainable sudden illness to stress because no one can disprove them otherwise. He’s never incline to believe so although stress does contribute to certain quirky behavior. Anyway, if he were to speculate, it would be some kind of trauma to her bladder during surgery since there is a lot of poking going on in there. The old vet might have inadvertently poked her bladder.

After a very thorough examination, he realized that Lucy Belle has a very tiny bladder. Not one vet at the old place ever said so. He went ahead and proceeded to get another urine sample from Lucy Belle. Initially, the sample were to obtain by applying pressure to her bladder and collecting the sample from her urethra. Unfortunately, he said that she is too stingy with her pee .. that’s the first time I laughed out loud. He really makes me feel at ease.

So, he told Lucy Belle that he had to introduce a needle through her abdomen again and assured her that it’s like mommy pinching herd. ๐Ÿ™‚ Another round of urinalysis and the test result will be back tomorrow.

He also took an X-Ray of her bladder to make sure it’s not inflamed or if there are presence of stones. Good news is, her bladder looks fine albeit really tiny.

Since the culture is coming back tomorrow, his office will be in contact with my old vet’s office. So, we would know more about her existing condition. I was told to continue with the medication and when the result come back, we can determine if she is on the right track with her antibiotics.

He also checked her spay incision area and it’s healing well. He tried to feel for the lump again but it’s gone. The area looks good, nothing to be worried about. Sometimes, he said that a little irritation might cause the area to swell but from what he can see now, I shouldn’t be too worried.

As a precaution, Lucy Belle was given subcutaneous fluids (IV) to help curb dehydration and hopefully, help flush out the buggers.

At home, Lucy Belle went to pee and I am so happy to hear the waterfall~!~ I checked and she peed a lot more than usual and with no much straining. I don’t know what miracle did he perform on her but my girl is peeing like a horse!

Thank you all so very much. Had it not for you, I would have never thought of going to another vet. Although we are still waiting for the culture test result, knowing that Lucy Belle is peeing again is making me so happy. Muahs! and Hugs to everyone!

You know, a friend just called and I told her I am so happy today. She asked me why and I said *My cat peed! My cat finally peed!* She was like *WHAT?!*

Wonderful news! A good vet, nothing seriously wrong, and an immediate improvement! His speaking directly to Lucy Belle to explain what he was about to do shows that this is a special doctor indeed.

I sincerely believe that a feline exclusive vet is the way to go. Of course, it comes with a price but my Lucy Belle is taken care of very well. He informed me about the many factors contributing to FLUTD, symptoms and diagnosis, treatment and prevention. He suggested that I offer Lucy Belle some tomato juice to acidify the urine.

Since Lucy Belle is still so young, he would not suggest a change in diet although there are something called Prescription Diet C/D that he normally prescribes to older patients.

I just have to say that I learn so much about her condition from him than all the other 4 vets combined!

kittymom : The new vet mentioned that her old vet should get a grasp of what is going on and be informed of the test result as well. I am never going back to him but let him know what he probably did to my girl.

Whew! The subQ fluids probably gave her the push her kidneys needed to help flush the system. She was probably borderline dehydrated and the kidneys ‘thought’ it better to conserve.

Well, who said kidneys have brains?

    Encourage those fluids!

Yes! Yes.. we are ready to get off the roller-coaster.

Thank God, tuttibella! I’m doing a happy dance with tears in my eyes!

Stick with the vet you discovered—I found my current vet after many others misdiagnosed my dog when he almost died. He was definitely a life-saver and I wouldn’t have found him if it weren’t for the horrible ‘trials’ I had to go through with the other vets–so, I look at that heart-wrenching time as God putting a caring vet in my sights. Give Lucy Belle a kiss for me and a virtual Greenie, too!

Anyone knows long does it take for the puff under her skin to disappear. This if from the IV. Vet says her body will absorb the fluid, just wondering how much time it takes.

Also, anyone elses kitty have a tiny bladder?

probably a couple of hours depending on how dehydrated she was, how much her kidneys flush and how much fluid was introduced.
