Hi everyone I found a baby kitten on my back porch yesterday and seemed to be abaonded. It was raining the night before so I’m notaure if the mother left it and forgot about it. But anyway I couldn’t leave her .. or him on the summer heat so I took her on. I’ve been feeding her the kitten formula and rubbing her belly. She’s very young. Probably only 2-3 weeks. She can’t walk very well. Just wondering if there’s anything else I can do to make her poop. She’s peed a bunch of times and her tummy isn’t hard

Also I have two adult cats.. and I know feline leukemia can be given thru cats who have it.. should I be worried? They haven’t gone near her.. only to sniff her.

Kittens don’t poop much on milk (every other day is fine) and she may have had an empty tummy for hours when you found her so I wouldn’t worry too much at this stage, just give her time. Yes, best to keep her away from your other cats until the vet’s been able to check she’s healthy or at least until a week is up. These sites and youtube videos are great for helping to raise an abandoned kitty:

Thank you. I read that whole thog helped a lot. Now do you know how my other cats can get he sickness I’d she has it? Like is it airborn within cats or do they have to come in contact? Also she seems to cry a lot. But she’s always purring. Should I be worried about the crying? I’m going to get her into the vet asap but for the time being.. I feel like a mother with a new born baby lol

Brittxo, FeLV can be spread through saliva, nasal secretions, urine, milk etc so could be spread by mutual grooming, coming into contact with each other’s urine etc, shared food dishes etc so best to keep kitten in a separate room (bathroom maybe?) and away from other cats until she’s checked out, and take sensible cleaning precautions etc. (This also helps with socialising her with your other cats if you plan on keeping her.) The videos have good suggestions on a soft nest — with a stuffed toy and/or unwashed sweater of yours to comfort her — hopefully that will help with the crying. She’s missing her mum.

Hi i also have a three week old kitten i rescued, at this age most of the time they can’t eliminate on there own and need help after every feeding gently rub a baby wipe or warm wet cloth/paper towel down there and the kitten should go if not they could be severely constipated and you should seek a vet right away. three days is too long!( i work at a vets office)

She pooped!! A lot too.. in the middle of then night all over my fiance ( she climbed out of the box and onto him) it was runny.. so far she’s pooped like 3 times and is starting to pee on her own too! She’s such a sweetheart . She’s teething very bad though . She’s still on the bottle so all she wants to do is chew on the nipple :/

You can let her chew on the nipple. It wears them out too so they nap well. Sometimes felv isn’t detectable till about 6 months. If she is tested now she may test positive because of mothers milk having the antibodies, but she may not actually have it. Also, if it keeps being runny for a day or 2 she should be fed electrolytes. Diarrhea can kill kittens if left alone.

I’ve been feeding her kitten formula. It’s not full runny its chunky but I mean its not like normal poop. She seems to be a happy kitten .. other than when we clean her butt :/

Since she is just starting the formula definitely give it a couple of days. It should go away no problem. If you can you should get a picture of her on here! Tdk would love to see her!

I am hand rearing a (now) 3-4 week old kitten. He didn’t poop for FIVE long days. I called the vet and as they were out of hours they directed to an emergency pet clinic in our area. When I called yesterday (7/21/12) I told the vet on duty that someone had suggested I add a drop or two of Karo Syrup to the formula. He said that might work but could also quite probably cause blood sugar issues in a kitten so young. He suggested a drop (ONE) of either fish oil or vitamin E oil in the formula but said not to do it too often. Well, after just 2 drops of fish oil my baby has finally pooped and I feel a lot better and I am sure he does too, although it didn’t seem to bother him. He was just as active and ate just as well as always.

Aww. Does he flip out when you’re trying to feed him? My little one attacks the bottle .. & how do you post a picture on here?
