My mom got 2 kittens from a friend they are very young not sure how young but their eyes are still shut and umbilical cord still attached and we can’t get them to poop I am diluting their formula and put 2 drops of canola oil in it but 12 hours and still no poop I have them during the day while my mom is working and I’m very concerned about them!!! That being said we can’t not afford to take them to a vet :/ if anyone has any advise or ideals please let me know

Hi Danielle–sounds like your kittens are still very young yet especially since the umbilical cords were still attached. Kittens may not poop right away since they utilize much of the nutrition from their mother and don’t expel it as waste right in the beginning. You are doing the right thing with diluting formula and adding a little oil. Goat’s milk is wonderful for raising kittens and you won’t have to worry about constipation or diarrhea. It’s cheaper than formula too. You can can it at the grocery in the cold milk section as fresh, or in the baking aisle in cans as condensed. If you buy the condensed, add water 1 to 1. I will post some link for you to read about kittens and their care. Good luck!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufFWLmpIu08 Here is a video of the “triangle method” of getting kittens to poop. I forgot to ask you if you knew that kittens do not poop and pee on their own, but you have to do it for them, until they are old enough to do it on their own.

My mom switched them to liquid formula and I got both of them to poop today the bigger one pooped quite a bit and the little one only had a tiny hard chunk come out but at least it’s something…the little one isn’t looking good today his eyes are puffy not sure why and he had these hard lumps near his butt and one popped and stinks but he’s eating and peeing fine so idk I’m new to this stuff

Walmart carries the goat’s milk in cans in the baking aisle. It’s condensed so you add water 1 to 1. They also have the powdered goat’s milk in the same aisle.

They are doing better on the liquid formula so we are just going to stick to that for now

update: both babies still alive and doing well…they are eating and going to the bathroom fine, the lumps on the rungs butt were popped and are healing great, the runts eyes are no longer swollen a warm compress helped that, and their eyes are almost completely open
