What I object to is the representation that the inclusion of “meat by products” makes the food inferior. It would be healthier to include these in proportion to the muscle meats. Since the food is cooked, the bones would be problematic since cooked bones splinter. But they can be ground into meal to supply the minerals needed in the diet. Again in the proportion found in the natural diet.
I have seen “health foods” for cats that were specifically advertised to contain no “Donald, Thumper, or Bambi” in their products. Now venison is not a ligitimate prey animal for a house cat. But duck and rabbit are. You can make a case for not feeding deer meat but these same producers use beef, mutton, tuna, salmon and other items not on a housecat’s native menu.
The real horror was the “natural health” food (I can’t remember the brand) for cats that was totally vegetarian. No artificial color, no artificial preservatives and no meat or meat by products. At least it was “fortified with amino acids to promote good vision”. And this “GEM” was a 100% American manufacture.
I admit I have a wierdy who won’t touch canned cat food (he tries to bury it) and he is just beginning to agree that the Au Jus from pot roast is ok but the meat is not. He will barely touch broiled chicken or fish if I offer a share of my meal but no more than one or two bites. And he hates tuna with a passion. So, I vary the brands I buy sticking to lower ash formulas and try to watch for the origin of the ingredients used by the company.
