Hi all! The following is an email from my sister in NJ. She fosters and boards, and is expecting a border so she can’t keep the kittens. Any help for these babies would be extremely appreciated!

3 – 3weeks old kitten with possible FIV (aids) need foster home until they are approximately 3 months old when they can been tested. Mother tested positive for FIV and was extremely sick. 3 kittens have passed already. The remaining 3 are taking a bottle well and are gaining weight. The foster home needs to have no other cats as negative interaction (deep bite wound, possible saliva) may result in infecting the healthy cat. Mom cat had a litter approxiamtely 6 months ago and the only kittens (3) that we know of have tested negative for FIV and doing great and waiting for a forever home.

Also if anyone knows of a haven for FIV cats/kittens this would be extremely helpful. Seems that there is an infected male/female in the area that we hope to trap and spay/neuter. The animal rescue group has limited funds and works with a small municipal shelter. The town only takes care of food and litter for the cats. Medication, spay/neuter and kitten food is supplied by the shelter support group. We do the best we can.

    Thanks for your help.

*bump* Anyone know of a facility perhaps? We’d be willing to make the drive to help these babies.

Joan, I’m not from the area but Furrever Friends does have FIV+ cats for adoption. Unfortunately, their website says they aren’t accepting surrenders, but since these are rescue kitties, maybe they could help… http://www.furreverfriends.org Also Tabby’s place, accepts from shelters only http://www.tabbysplace.org/index.html. Or Animal Welfare Association, http://www.awanj.org/page.aspx?pid=383. I’m not sure that Little Cheetah Cat Rescue can take them, but may also have ideas. http://ucat.us/main.html

Thank you KC, this is encouraging! The 3 surviving babies are getting better; kicking the URI and gaining weight.

JNJ, I am so sorry to hear that little Dugan lost his fight. A pox on the heartless people who abandoned his mother/grandmother/greatgrandmother and sealed his fate! I hope his siblings continue to hang on, and escape the virus. Although, sadly, I fear that if momcat was very sick, she may have had high viral titers and been more likely to transmit it to her kittens.
