I have found many sites that recommend making a tea by pouring boiling water over rosemary and letting it sit for a while. They say it is safe to spray on cats and on cats bedding. There is another site that recommends using lemon to get fleas off of dogs and kill them on furniture. Has anybody here tried either of these?

OW, I posted a couple of days ago about drops that I bought at my local health food store that you put in the cat’s water, that controls fleas and bugs…. you can also make a spray of it……and yes! it contains rosemary, cedar oil and other natural herbs that are repellants to bugs and insects…..

….. I wanted to share it with MS and BB too, they were wanting a natural alternative for flea control….. let me go get it right now, and I’ll post the name…… BRB

These are the products I use, and I buy them at my local health food market!…. I love them, and they seem to work great!

Just to add more confusion to flea control products……here are some natural remedies….. have no idea if they work…. but if they do, it would be very inexpensive.

Thanks AV. Since I am low on money, and rosemary appears to be safe for the cats, I am going to try the homemade rosemary tea for the cats.

    12PAWZ,

I will try the lemon flea spray for the dog and for the furniture as the vinegar smell would drive us crazier that the fleas!

I think I will try giving the brats brewers yeast as well, though with Shiva’s insanely finicky appetite, I am worried I cannot get her to eat it.

I noticed something very interesting OW when I was visiting my son in Ca. last month. His house is a stones throw to a creek and I wondered why there weren’t alot of bugs and mosquitoes all around his house and yard. Then he showed me the huge rosemary bush growing in his yard. It sure works for them. They have two indoor/outdoor dogs and they don’t have flea problems at all. I believe the rosemary tea may do the trick. Let me know if it works. I think we’re going to plant some in our yard.

I used to use brewer’s yeast on my dogs and it worked well, I would put it in their wet food and they were fine eating it.

AV, which product do you use to put in their water?

Karenopa, the rosemary bushes planted outside sound like they would work.

OW, the vinegar smell would dissapate (?) pretty quickly I believe.

Deb, I use the drops Newtons’ homeopathic flea & bug bites drops…. it puts the herbs in their system, so fleas or insects won’t get on them or bite them, just like with advantage……. it’s also good for animals that suffer allergies, as it helps relieve symptoms and itchiness….I have good success…

Thanks AV, may have to try that one, mine don’t have fleas but sometimes I worry about one latching onto my pantlegs when walking in the house.

…. you can also make a spray with the flea control oil & water – safe to spray on bedding, carpet, etc. It’s also something you can spray, then rub into their fur and then give a good brush/combing…..

I saw that too, guess you can also cut a small piece of a flea collar and put it on another regular collar for those that are vary sensitive.

I just made up a batch of rosemary tea and put it on the kitten, then sprayed the kitten’s bed with it. I also sprayed the sheet on my airbed in the living room with it as Shiva sleeps there, and then lightly sprayed the rug around the airbed.

The fleas are going insane on Bungee, I can see them diving in and out of her fur. I am hoping that the increased flea activity means that the fleas hate the rosemary tea. Bungee doesn’t seem to mind the scent, but she does not seem to like the taste when she grooms herself.

I am going to wait until Shiva comes into the house tonight to put some on her.

I will let you all know how it works out.
