    Hi,

We have recently got a kitten (2weeks ago) she is called Mollie and is approx 20weeks old, she hadnt had her initial vaccinations so we have taken her to the vet and she is due her 2nd injection on 1st December. We are starting to have a few problems with her sleep pattern (partly our fault).

For the 1st few nights she slept alone in the kitchen but then on the night she had her 1st jab we let her sleep in our room as we went to bed earlier than normal. She has since slept on our bed a few times but now we close our door and she sleeps downstairs.

The past few nights she has started to meow and scratch our door at approx 4am. last night i heard a bang and louder meowing and then the bathroom door squeaked open (she had cleary headbutted it open!)

Can any1 suggest any tips other than placing her back in the kitchen all night? and playing with her to tire her out?

I have considered getting a leash and taking her on a walk to tire her out but as she hasnt had her 2nd vaccination I am a bit dubious of doing so incase she catches anything.

Another thing – she used to eat 3 full pouches of wet food throughout the course of the day (8.30am we leave this down for her all day, 5.30when my partner gets in and 9-10pm before we head up to bed), since we got her chipped and dewormed she has gone off her food and only eating half a bowl at a time, and she eats less if its dry food. Any tips on what we can do?

    Thanks in advance

Hi, welcome to TDK! Others who are raising kittens will be on the site shortly and have ideas for you to try. It sounds like you are taking very good care of her.

She is probably lonely. Is there some objection to having her sleep in your room? Does she have her own bed? My Molly sleeps with me, and I treasure that.

When she sleeps in our room she wont not sleep on the bed – even if hers is there for her. We dont mind some nights but I cant get a good nights sleep if she is there as I am consious I might roll on her and hurt her, and my partner and I are uncomfortable about being intimate when she is there.

She has her bed which she often goes in during the day, I dont allow any1 t go too close when she is in this as I felt she needed to know it was her ‘safe place’

Just dont know how to make her feel happy about sleeping alone downstairs and dont like to lock her in the kitchen x

Put a t-shirt of soft piece of clothing w/your scent on it as part of her bedding as a comforting sleep aid. Maybe a stuffed toy as company too. You could take her out on a leash before bedtime for a bit. I usually take my Crockey outdoors on his leash for about 20 min so he settles down in the evening. He sleeps on my bed & also in his box which has an old flannel shirt of mine as part of his bedding which seems to work well. Good luck plus warm welcome to TDK Pepper!
