My two 4 week old kittens have been starting to use the bathroom on their on throughout their little area, I had set a small tray of litter near them but instead of using the bathroom they tend to want to eat it! It’s a clumping litter so I removed it immediately in order to refrain from either of them getting sick, any tips on how to start getting them adjusted to using the bathroom in the litter box? Any specific brands or type of litters that are ideal for this type of situation? I’ve never raised kittens before so I’m scared that I’m going to fail at this step

You did the right thing by removing the clumping litter right away. Get plain clay, unscented, non clumping litter and put it in a small tray that they can get in an out of easily. Kittens do tend to eat litter (just because they think that everything is food at this point) and the clumping can cause blockages. After feeding them, or when you get a pee or poop, put it in the litter box. Place them in there a few minutes after feeding, even taking one of their paws and scratching the litter with it. They will smell their own poo and pee and get the idea quickly. Make sure the box is in a low traffic area where they feel safe, preferably close to their nest and they don’t have to go searching for it. Cats figure out the litterbox pretty quick. Once they are several months old, you can switch to another type of litter, just make sure it’s not highly scented, as some cats will refuse to use it!
