Hi! I’ve been taking care of a newborn kitten from a stray. She’s the only one who survived from a 3-kitten litter. The two others died from birth, but they are significantly larger in size than her. This kitten probably wasn’t able to be nursed after 24 hours of her birth because her mom was having a hard time with labor that she needed to have a csection (which is also an emergency spay). (The mom is okay now, but the vet told me she wouldn’t be able to nurse anymore)

So yeah, I’ve been taking care of this kitten since day 3 of her birth. I’m using kitten formula (not KMR though, we don’t have any of those here, unfortunately) and I’m bottle-feeding her every two hours. However, there are times that I haven’t been able to feed her because I oversleep. ><

I don’t have a kitchen scale but I could tell that she’s really thin for her age. It has already been more than 2 weeks and her eyes are still closed shut. I’m not sure when it has been there, but there is also a quiet clicking noise from her, and some say it could lead to pneumonia. She has yellow firm-to-soft poop with some blood (though sometimes there isn’t any). Her sucking reflex goes on and off–sometimes she can suck, sometimes she can’t– but even if she could suck, she could only take about 1-3 mL of formula, usually 1-2mL. When I try again, she would only lick the nipple but she couldn’t suck. I don’t know what to do, and I don’t have any more budget for the vet… I really feel bad.

Welcome to TDK! I don’t know where you are located, but pasteurized goat’s milk is a cheap and effective alternative to KMR! It can be found in the milk cooler section of most grocery stores (and Walmart) and also in the baking aisle in most groceries and Walmart in cans. The canned is condensed so you just need to dilute 1 to 1. It has good flora for their gut and has L-Lysine to boost their immune systems. It is non constipating and does not cause diarrhea and I raised my youngest kitten on it entirely. He is now 5 months old! Make sure she is not getting milk into her lungs which can cause pneumonia. If you hear a clicking sound, she just could have feline herpes, which is not a death sentence, my cats all have it. But the L-lysine in the goat’s milk will help that a lot. Good luck with your baby and keep us updated!
