Hello all. I have been using my real name of Gail White, but everyone here seems to have a “Pet” name, so I am using bayoucatlady because I live on the banks of Bayou Teche in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. My current cats are Pushkin, who is black and also known as Bat Brains, and Daisy, who is white with brown splotches, very soft and cute, and also known as Muffin. I have several others waiting at the Bridge, especially my dear black Pandora who brightened our life in New Orleans. I’m glad to be with you all.

Hi Gail. “Bayoucatlady” has a nice ring to it. I should come up with a nickname for myself, but not being the original type I can’t think of anything. Do you have photos of your kitties online? Would love to see them.

bayoucatlady, welcome. Are you in New Iberia Parish? I love the Dave Robicheau books by James Lee Burke. They are set in New Iberia Parish and he mentions Bayou Teche a lot. Headbonks and purrs to Pushkin and Daisy.

    Hi bayoucatlady,

I’m Bobbi and I live in the Dallas area, but I’m from New Orleans. I try to get back often (I’ve been back twice since Katrina) but it breaks my heart to still see so much devastation.

I know exactly where Breaux Bridge is, and you are really in bayou country.

Most of my relatives now live in the Baton Rouge area, but N.O. will always be my “home”.

Hello and thank you all for your comments.

I’m afraid I have no cat pictures on-line as I still have not learned how to post pictures to the Internet! If I could I would certainly send a picture of Daisy to TDK – she was the world’s cutest kitten.

Breaux Bridge is in St. Martin Parish but I know New Iberia well. Also lived 17 years in New Orleans before the crime rate got to us and we moved to the country. Our old house survived the flood, being close to the river, but our old neighborhood (Bywater, or the lower Ninth Ward ) was really devastated.

We have a wonderful restaurant here in BB, the Cafe des Amis, to say nothing of Mulate’s which is famous for Cajun music. Put this on your vacation list, fellow cat lovers!
