Sweet Pea isn’t super interested in food. She was fine yesterday, but today she wouldn’t eat anything until I gave her goats milk. She’s only eaten twice in the last 24 hours; kitten chow at about 4am and that was only a few bites. She had about 5tbsp of goats milk for breakfast (at about noon). She’s totally fine other than the fact she won’t eat? It’s 18:46(6:46pm) right now, usually she eats every five hours but she won’t eat. She’s playing fine, so maybe she just isn’t hungry? I’m a bit concerned though just because normally she eats like a pig, and now she doesn’t want anything. Should I try feeding her goats milk again?

I filled her bowl with goats milk and put it next to her bowl of kitten chow. She went right to the milk and is gulping it down. Do some kittens take a few steps back and refuse to eat anything but their milk? Hesitant to put her back on just milk. I don’t think she’ll get enough nutrients that way. But I want her to eat. Should I start using the milk in place of water for the kitten chow?

She was totally uninterested in that as well. She sniffed it but then pawed at my leg to sit on my lap. She’s sat there now and purring like the lawn mower she is. Not sure what to do now, though:(

maybe mix milk with kitten chow and eventually decrease amount of milk ? but always provide fresh water…

Eli, I would try getting her some wet food and mix a little of the goat’s milk to entice her to eat something that you know she likes. I’m not a fan of kitten chow, as most of my kittens didn’t like it either. I don’t know why, but I ended up just throwing it out after a while. It’s not going to hurt anything that she likes her goat’s milk, my kitten Willow LOVED his and I let him have it whenever he wanted it. He weaned himself off it after a while but he loves his wet food!

I tried mixing milk with the kitten chow and she turned up her nose again. She liked it up until today, but for the past few days I haven’t been giving her the wet food as well. I’m going to try the wet food again tomorrow and just leave out the kitty chow for her to munch on if she gets hungry while I’m gone, but all she had today was a couple bowls of goats milk. Maybe she just decided she didn’t like the kitten chow as much as she likes the wet food. Crossing my fingers that that was the case, or she just wasn’t hungry. She has the same amount of energy as always, and learned how to jump up the stairs today. She’s getting to be quite the trouble maker.

    HI Eli,

Remember as KZ said mix wet food into her milk but put it in a separate dish. If she doesn’t like it she can stick to the milk. Her mama would have had her milk until (at least) 6 weeks so don’t worry about the length of time. You can leave the kitten chow out. My kitties ate every bit so I guess it all depends on your wee furball. 🙂

Give your wee Sweet Pea gentles kisses from me.

If you’re really worried (what Meowmy isn’t?) and it doesn’t break the budget, pick up so Nutrical for Kittens.

I don’t want to be a doomsayer but maybe a vet trip would be a good idea. I lost my little kitten this past Sunday. He was great….a few hours before he died. He wasn’t very interested in his food, had a little goat milk. I wrapped him up for a snooze, a few hours later he was crying. He died a mile from the vet. I am crushed. Don’t make my mistake.

Critterlover- I’m so sorry for your loss 🙁

I suppose I should post an update though while I’m here.

She’s okay now. She had a bowl of goats milk for breakfast, and half a can of Friskies for lunch (she usually eats about 1/4 to 1/3 of a can) with a bit of goats milk as well. I left out some dry food and water for her to munch on while I’m out and I caught her snackin on it. She’s got her first round of shots on Wednesday and I’ll be asking the vet about it when we go.

Eli I am glad for the update! So glad she is feeling better, or has decided that food is good again and am glad she is going to the vet for her shots.
Critterlover, I am so sorry about your little one. Did the vet give you any ideas as to his death? Sometimes there are no answers. Your baby knew only love in his short life, please take comfort in that.
