It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to today’s Star Kit, Mr Ólta Minnesota. He is a 5 month old DSH from West Cork, Ireland.
Mr Ólta Minnesota has been with us now for nearly 2 months 🙂 He traveled a very long way to get to us and he’s a very special kitten!
He was born with a condition called Cerebellar hypoplasia. Before he was born his mother was exposed to a virus this unfortunately affected Ólta and meant his cerebellum stopped growing. Cerebellar hypoplasia affects a cat’s mobility and balance and can range from very mild (slight head wobbles also known as attention tremors) to severe, where a cat requires assistant to remain upright and has no balance whatsoever. I must stress that CH cats are in no pain and are not dizzy or in distress. They live perfectly healthy normal lives in the right environment.
Mr Ólta is classed as a moderate case. His balance is badly affected, he falls a lot and has noticeable head tremors but he does walk unaided and uses his litter box just fine 🙂
Mr Ólta has had a few health scares because of a virus he contracted from his mother. Feline Herpes has caused some severe URI’s, but he is on L-lysine daily and this helps greatly!
Unfortunately Ólta had a reaction to his first vaccination 3 weeks ago and we almost lost him 🙁 It was a very scary two weeks of recovery but he’s a fighter! He’s our little spitfire! Mr Ólta also has a condition that means both his testicles are retained. This is very rare and makes his upcoming neuter operation a little more complicated along with his CH status as only certain anesthesia meds can be used, but we have great vets and I have absolutely no doubt he will do just fine 🙂
Mr Ólta Minnesota is an amazing addition to our special furry family! He now has a Big Brother Mr Noodle Kaboodle (also special needs three legs and only has full vision in one eye) , Miss Teeny Tiny Nutini (suffered from PTSD and suspected hypersensitivity) and Ms Moneypenny our one eyed Diva 🙂
Ólta also has two barn cat siblings but he hasn’t met them yet and 4 doggie siblings but he doesn’t appear to like them very much yet 🙂
Tom is the owner of 4 amazing cats, and using the Daily Kitten he provides a place for cat and kitten lovers to share the love for their own cats and kittens.
Wow! You are wonderful to take such great care of him and your other kitties. <3
Yay, cutie pie Olta is The Daily Kitten! He is such a handsome baby boy – he has such dreamy eyes!
Olta Olta, Rah, rah – Let’s here it for our very own Irish boy. He’s a cutie and his purr parents are awesome. Mwah! 🙂
Congratulations Mr. Olta Minnesota!!! I predict you will be quite a famous young man in your time!!! You’re beautiful!!!
aww thanks guys 🙂 Mr Ólta’s head is getting a bit big though 😆 it’s hard to believe he’s only been in the family a few weeks! it’s like he was always here!
Concats to li’l Orangie Mr Olta & Meomy Buttons 😀
Oops.. I got my dates wrong Mr Ólta is 4 months old not 5 🙂
We have a CH kitty too – he can get around but stumbles a lot and sometimes seems a bit frustrated as his legs get twisted and shoot off in strange directions. CH kitties are just as loving and playful as “ordinary” kitties, and if their condition isn’t too bad, not that hard to take care of. The biggest concern we have is that a couple of our other kitties sometimes bully Midnight (he’s black with one small area of white on his belly) – it’s something you have to watch for. A CH kitty also needs a protected environment – they can’t get away from vicious dogs or other ‘unpleasantries’.
Otherwise, they’re not “rejects” and should never be! I’m glad to hear you adopted a special needs kitty – and I’d suggest that for anyone! They deserve to be loved too!
Yay!!! Button’s Mr. Òlta Minnesota is our Star Kit today! 🙂
Congrats Mr Olta and Buttons for Kitty of the Day. He has certainly been through a lot for one so young but he also has the best home a cat could wish for.
Hello sweet Olta! You’re a star!
Hello Mr Olta, you are a beautiful kitty and you are so fortunate to have such a caring Mum. She’s the best!
Congrats on your lovely Mr. Olta, and your whole special needs family. The nice thing about them is other than eating and getting around reasonably, they don’t give a rip how they look and are just as happy as anyone.
Yay baby you made it to become the TDK kitten! Woot woot!
