Athena

Please join me in meeting and greeting our newest Star Kit, Athena. She is 9 months old from Grafton, North Dakota.

Athena

Athena is the lone survivor of a feral community of cats. After a bitter winter two of the 8-10 (later realized it was a male and female) had made it through and were slowly beginning to trust my family and I. We were able to coax them into our front porch with wet cat food we purchased just for them.

One sunny morning lo and behold there were suddenly two kittens roaming around with Mom. It took a tragic turn just hours later, planting season had begun and Mom and one of the kits were caught in the field by a tractor. We spent hours looking for the second kit and prevailed although kit was not enthusiastic as we were.

She was so small and terrified of people. I wrapped her in the hoodie I had been wearing and just held her in the dark room. Hours I spent on the internet looking for what to do, I’d never been a cat owner let alone a small kitten.

She had a full mouth of teeth, walked steadily with her ears pointy and alert. I took a picture of her and sent it to my Niece who’d just finished her Veterinary schooling. I was so happy to hear that she was at least 4-5 weeks old and could eat the wet food I already had.

It took her less than two days to relax, start purring and seem to accept everyone including our Pup. No matter how many times I separated her and our Icy I’d find her curled up against her sleeping while Icy groomed her.

She now is an extremely affectionate, happy, sturdy beautiful girl. She broke everything I had thought a cat was and replaced it with the truth lol. I fell in love the second I held her, created a bond so strong the day I nursed her through a bad upset tummy day.
