Pounce! Brownie sounds like a wonderful companion. He’s a handsome boy.
Pounce on Brownie!
Thanks for your wonderful story with a very happy ending.
Delicious Mr. Brownie is one handsome tabby guy!
We love our Brownie von Brownstein.
He’s a steady eddie and true stoic. He never complained about his teeth or anything.
A heckuva guy.
My first cat, Willow, had FIV when we first took him in. I’d like to tell folks a little about FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus):
– It’s kind of like HIV except it’s not transferred the same way; a cat gets it from a bite or a scratch from an infected cat.
– A cat with FIV can continue to live 10 years or so… but it will have some problems in life. Any infection or cut may not heal properly by itself; you may need to give the cat antibiotics. Willow had an impacted anal gland and needed some minor surgery. He came home with stitches that were supposed to be removed in 10 days… but after that time, the wound had not healed and the skin edges turned black so the vet had to cut them off and then there was not enough skin left to close the wound so we had to leave it open, a small, football-shaped hole. We had to give him warm compresses every few hours (day and night) and antibiotics. Eventually the wound closed, and it even grew fur back!
– Eventually the cat will become very sickly, as do HIV-infected humans with AIDS. This is unfortunate, but it will still happen until they find cures for these two similar diseases. Willow had a good life (after he moved in with us) that was cut too short… but I’m glad he was able to enjoy it.
Be well, everybody (human and cat — and even dog)!

Mr. Brownie knew good and loving purr parents. I’m glad you brought him in to be part of the four Amigos!
In my experience FIV cats can be quite healthy- until they aren’t. Antibiotics are a staple for the FIV cats in my colony. Roscoe came inside to live and was gloriosly healthy for six years. However, when he got a tumor it grew super fast and took him down. (sadness)
What is important to note is that there has been no transmission from one indoor cat to another.
(Outside is another matter entirely.)
Brownie is quite handsome! I too took in a FIV+ cat 2 years ago. The vet estimated him to be about 8 years old based on his teeth and eyes. He’s a happy and healthy boy.
I’m so happy for you – may you enjoy many happy times together!
