Please give Caturday greetings to today’s Star Kit, Jenny. She is an 8 month old Grey Tabby from Johnson City, Tennessee.
We adopted Jenny from a local rescue agency. She was skittish when we brought her home and immediately hid. After a few days, she is now running all over the house. She is spayed and has immunizations, saw the vet yesterday and pronounced healthy.
PROBLEM: She is meowing to the point of frustration for my husband and I. We have cuddled, belly-rubbed- the whole 9 yards She is playful, but then when she is not sleeping or playing, she wanders through the house meowing. She had litter mates in the crate when we adopted her and from what I have read on this site, it could be that she is missing them. Just how long could this go on? We are a senior couple and do not have the energy to chase her and keep her amused, but we do spend a lot of time entertaining her. Suggestions please. She is adorable.
Tom is the owner of 4 amazing cats, and using the Daily Kitten he provides a place for cat and kitten lovers to share the love for their own cats and kittens.
She needs a pal, adopt another kitty. Twice as much fun anyway!
Pounce for James!
Since James was caring enough to worry more about Jenny than getting the pounce.
I agree, and it’s surely worth a try, since she’s spayed she may just be lonely. And two cats
IS better than one, they are entertaining for you and your husband, and they entertain and
provide company for each other when you aren’t there or just have other things that need
doing. Best to you all.
Two cats are better than one, but she may still be a talker, our Oliver, a Tuxie, is a big-time talker. It will get better but she will always talk, just not quite as much. Luckily Oliver doesn’t talk during the night, he sleeps on the bed and never does his talking or whining as I sometimes call it. Jenny is adorable.
I agree completely; I think she’s lonely and wants some feline company. When I was alone in Japan it wasn’t long before I wanted someone — anyone — to talk with in English. I have a feeling Jenny wants a friend who can speak Cat.
Two cats is not twice the trouble of one cat; provided they get along, they will keep each other company.
I got to agree with the majority and recommend that you get another kitty.
I have 2 rescue kittens that are brothers and they are spayed. The rescue folks said that it is their rule that kittens from the same litter be sold in pairs and in case of only one kitten left then it would go to a rescue house where there are other cats and/or other pets in the home and would be adopted later on.
I too am a senior guy who lives alone and I get a lot of joy watching these two and keeping me company.
Concats on adopting Miss Jenny. She is an adorable silver tabby. She could use a playmate and 2 kittens aren’t twice the work. Check with the agency where you found Miss Jenny. Happy Caterday!
Jenny is a cutie! If you are able, please consider adopting a playmate for her.
Feliway may also help. It comes in a spray or diffuser and is available at pet supply stores. It contains feline pheromones and is helpful in calming cats. Good luck. 🙂
Jenny is a lovely calico lady. I agree she would like kitty company. A kitten would probably be the best choice that is younger than her. There are many that could advise you in the chat section of TDK on how to best introduce another cat into your household which is best done slowly. Many happy years with your pretty girl.
I will join the crowd in suggesting that you get her a playmate. They will provide you and each other with great entertainment and by playing they can work off all that kitten energy. Why don’t you talk to the people at the rescue agency? I assure you, you won’t be the first they’ve seen with this problem!
Jenny is such a lovely name for a cat. It’s also the name of a wonderful, classic book about a cat, by Paul Gallico. If any of you haven’t read it, it’s worth searching it out.
Miss Jenny is adorable!
It’s a great idea to get your kitty a companion. But that may not solve the problem, like SammyandOliversmama said. You can also try playing some special cat calming music in the background. There is a CD available, Through a Cat’s Ear: Music for Calming. It is by Lisa Spector & Joshua Leeds. I downloaded my copy.
She is beautiful! I am a strong believer in adopting two at a time! I have always done this and I think it helps them. Two are more fun for them and for you. If you can still get one of her litter mates that would be the easiest route to take.
Jenny is beautiful – conCATulations on rescuing her and giving her the forever home she needed!
It certainly sounds like Jenny is calling for her siblings. I also think another kitten would calm her down.
I have a chatty girl, but she doesn’t meow at night, just during the day to tell me about things (like it was cold outside, or she chased bugs, etc.).
One other thing. My cats have done what I call “the call of the wild” at night, usually in the summer and generally it’s the males. Yes, this in spite of another playmate. I don’t know if they’re picking up the scent of other cats or animals. It’s not everyday. They do believe they live in the jungle and must be predators!
Also, I don’t know how long it’s been since Jenny was spayed. If recently, she may still be in the process of getting used to the hormonal changes.
Gotta luv those tabbies – esp Jenny the catuday Star-kit of the day!
