I got the call late at night. A friend located a kitten from a feral mother that was killed by a car. I set off with trap in hand. I soon learned that the mother was killed weeks earlier. Needless to say, I was, and still am, very ticked off at him for not calling earlier. Anyway, it only took 2 minutes to trap the baby, which was only seven weeks old. The shock came when I put my hands on the little ball of fluff. Under all that hair, he was nothing but skin & bones. The next morning we went to the vet. The vet said that the kitten wouldn’t have lived much longer. Aside from being skinny, and rather… ummmmm… ugly, Gizmo was doing pretty good.
A few days later, I signed him over to the no-kill shelter that I foster for. He got a check up, his first shots & he went home with me to be fost ered. Several weeks later Gizmo was turned over to the shelter to be neutered & find his forever home, but something was very wrong. Four days had passed & I haden’t stopped crying for the ugly, little furball. I called the shelter & told them what was going on. They said what I already knew. Gizmo did have his forever home! The next day I drove 90 minutes to the shelter to pick up my furball who adopted me! When I got home, Mom asked why Gizzy was back. I just said that he never should have left in the first place! Months later, the ugly duckling has turned into a swan! Gizmo has grown into a very handsome boy with long, glossy, silky black fur.

POUNCE!!! Very handsome indeed.
Gizmo knew all along that your home was his forever home. Thank you for saving him and many years of happiness to you both!!!!!
What a sweet story, but I am not very surprised after looking at that fuzzy face! You did exactly what you needed to do. You saved him from certain death and took him to a place that would care for him and nurse him to health. Then when you were both ready, you brought him home where he needed to be. Kismet!
*oh* – that is so sweet!! Little Gizmo knew who his forever hooman was, before you did! Thank you for fostering, you help make the world a kinder, gentler and purrier place. Many years of health and happiness to you and Gizmo 🙂
Gizmo is one lucky boy. I rescued a Balinese who is now 8. He too was a bit scary looking when I took him in. Such a reward to see them thrive. Best wishes to you & Gizmo. Looks like he hit a homerun with his forever home.
Aw!!! Love this story. Lucky Gizmo :0)
Gizzy is beautiful and the two of you have a special bond. He will live a long and healthy life with you to love him. ^ ^
Bless you for rescuing this handsome boy! 🙂
You know, Gizzy looks a lot like my old cat Bentley did he was a kitten. He also goofy-looking with hair everywhere. Then, he grew into the prettiest, sleekest 24 pound Maine Coon cat ever! Bentley loved bounding around in the snow too. I hope you have as good a life with Gizzy as I did with my Bentley.
thanks for the happy tears. I’m glad you realized he picked you. Go kick your friend in the hind end though.
Sweet, Yaaa for Gizzy and Bless your heart!
Gizzy may have had a really rough start in life, but now he and you are set for happiness and purrs. He’s just darling.
Smoochies of happines for black swan of a kit as Gizmo! Your furever little survivor who had you picked out way before he came home again to stay! Hey Giz you iz the one, the one & only & our Star-kit today at TDK!
What a wonderful rescue kitten story! Gizmo is adorable! He reminds me much of my Katie when she was little. She too was homely with eyes that were too close together. She grew up to be a beautiful and loving 16 lb. Maine Coon. Many happy loving years with your handsome feline fella! Give Gizmo a hug and treat from Katie and me:)
Somebody should’ve told you about the FUZZ sooner!
FUZZ was already home.
A little boy in a big coat.
Congrats to both of you!
I do love fluffy furballs! So glad you reconnected! Thank you for all of your rescue efforts!
A stunning boy in disguise! Thanks for giving Gizzy the right care and giving him a loving furrver home. Saving Mr. Gizmo+adopting for you=many happy loving times ahead.
my cosmo, when i got him from the HS, was named peanut + looked like yoda, he was small compared to his new girlfriend, but had a very long tail. and he purred the first time i held him. i had to get peanut. peanut turned into a big 12lb Norwegian forest cat purebred lookalike w/ the fluffiest tail. i know how you NEEDED this charmer back.
You’ve done a wonderful job caring for him…and it shows. Thank you and kudos from one rescue meowmy to another.
Such a wonderful story. Thanks for taking Gizmo into your life. Best wishes for many years of hugs and kisses. I hope you two are staying warm and dry up there with all that Sandy is dishing out.
He looks so much like a kitten I rescued years ago. She was adopted by a vet tech at the office I took her to for her flea issues at the time of discovery – she was more fleas than cat! I can only hope she turned out as well as your Gizmo!
I hope Gizzy and his family are safe in the face of Hurricane Sandy.
Dear Friends,
Thank you very much for the kind, loving words. I was sitting on Mommy’s lap as she read them to me & my fursiblings. She needed a tissue to wipe the happy tears! Then the tissue became a toy for us!
In our part of New Jersey, Hurricane Sandy spared us & our home. Mommy & us furkids, hope the best for those affected by the storm. Stay safe!!!
God Bless Ya!

Your story is why I probably couldn’t foster. I’d just end up with hundreds of cats. God bless you for saving and keeping Gizzy.
